Today will you trust or betray?

Good day, players!
Today we will probably betray, in this game called "Trust Or Betrayal" OR "Trust Or Betray", depending if you read the title of this page or the title of the main screen, anyway this is a 2013 complete game by theotuve made with RPG Maker VX Ace.

"Trust Or Betray(al)" wastes no time in introductions, starting immediately with our alter ego, Hitsuna, waking up from a deep coma, without no memory of his past. The man besides him is a ninja named Kira that claims he rescued him and that they were two assassins chosen to kill the Shogun (or Shogoun, as spelled in some parts)... for some reason. Isn't this suspicious? Well yes, but the game does not let we do anything at all! We can choose to proceed with the plan or rest but both choices will lead to resting before proceeding with Kira's plan!

This is the moment of truth. The choice that will decide our future...

So off we go, to kill the Shogun. The game in incredibly short since it consists in a total of three maps (and one is the cave where the two ninjas will rest). The two have to infiltrate the Shogun's palace killing or avoiding enemies a couple of times, but do not worry since no one will be alerted, no one will find the bodies, and battles are extremely easy (well since we have no items or shops it's also a good thing). I warn you not to face the Shogun's army, because ninjas are skilled but that is a suicide move that leads to an obvious Game Over. Oh and you can also walk on the upper floor that apparently seems to extend for mile after mile... and no, it's not really a bug or a mapping error (just extremely BAD mapping or maybe it was supposed to be a more restricted area), since you can jump inside on the lower floor from a particular point of the map (if it was a mistake you'd be surely be blocked there). Not that this is useful at all.

In the end, facing the Shogun there will be a couple of twists that will lead to the trust or betrayal of the title, your choice! This will lead to a final battle that's slightly harder that the previous encounters, it's worth nothing that Hitsuna's choice will also determine the skills available in battle, and the enemy too. Anyway it's a pity that only one ending has a slide that describes an epilogue, the other is abrupt and bugged, I don't know if there are other possibilities since I noticed the indication of "5 endings", unfortunately I also read in the description "you will be given many different choices". No, these are not many at all.

Graphically and concerning the sounds the game uses RTPs plus the Samurai pack already seen in other game, but in this case it's appropriate, mapping is also ok, aside for some errors and imprecisions, but at least I did not find game breaking bugs, even if it's possible to sleep in the barracks dressed as a ninja without too many ripercussions (not to mention the weird cutscene and the final screen when you kill the Shogun, IF you kill the Shogun).

And as the wise sensei once told us: a blinded enemy cannot hit!

Final Verdict
Meh. It's a pity, I mean the idea was basically good, but too rushed and bare bones to be interesting and credible. I mean does the Shogun deserve to die? From how he speaks he seems like a bad man, while Kira is obviously taking advantasge of Hitsuna claiming he's his childhood friend... without even showing his face! Ok that they're supposed to be ninjas but Hitsuna must be terribly stupid and/or guillible. And I won't touch the typos and other imprecisions that unfortunately mar this game, but at least I found no game breaking bugs. It's something, isn't it?

I'm guessing you didn't notice the magic door that appears in the top right corner after you've slept in the barracks that let's you explore a sea of brown tiles. I'd definitely consider that a mapping issue worth mentioning.
