The game begins with a shot of the series title. The camera then tilts down towards a shot of busy street and pans right to two figures in the distance. The camera then zooms in on these figures before proceeding to the next scene.
Notes:
Even though this is the first scene within the actual intro of the game, out of all the scenes I tried to recreate in rpgmaker2003 this was probably the most complicated to work with, because the entire scene is actually just one giant image, manipulated through mode 7 on the SNES.
So, because I didn’t have access to the original image itself, I decided to recreate this scene by capturing a series of images with ZSNES and reconstruct 3 shots, which I’d then use in rpgmaker2003.
The first shot are the initial tilt and pan motions, merged together.
The second shot, is a clear section of the image that mode 7 manipulates.
I reconstructed this shot by blowing up a portion of the first shot by 175% and
reconstructed the walls and the villagers and such.
The third shot, is the last shot we see before the game proceeds to the next scene. This is just shot 2 enlarged by 160%
The end result isn't exactly identical to the SNES version, but I feel it still achieves the same effect, as there is definitely an uncanny similarity which is what I was trying to aim for with this project.
