Hello everyone!

This is the first blog posted for my new game, Infinity IV. I'll post here during development, with updates on what is being developed, and what you can expect in the completed game.

So without further ado.. a look behind the scenes.

A Reason to Creep Out NPCs: In the previous Infinity games, you could enter random NPC houses. You could usually find a quest in the later games, or just chat randomly with the NPC. But in Infinity IV, there will be a reason to "break into" random houses. Pretty much every NPC home in the game will have a chest that can be looted. You might find gold, you might find a potion, or you might even find a piece of jewelry that can be sold at the Pawn Shop for gold. So start looting and creeping!

HUD or no HUD: I've struggled with the in-game HUD, unsure if it should be in the game or not. In the end, I think my decision will be to leave the current one in the game, but disable it at the start. If the player wants to turn the HUD on, there will be an option to do so.

Failing and Fighting: In Infinity IV, you can fail quests. In some quests you won't die, but instead you will see what happens if you fail the quest, and it will be added to your "Failed Quest" count. So, some quests will have "multiple endings". This means the player will see what happens when you succeed, and what happens when you don't.. rather than just throwing a Game Over screen at the player. This also means if you happen to fail a quest, you can replay the game over to see what WOULD have happened had you succeeded.

Stats: As with previous Infinity games, various stats from gameplay are saved. Like in Infinity 3, those stats are viewable on the Save screen. So far those stats include Quests Completed, Quests Failed, Animals Hunted, and Treasure Chests found. Speaking of hunting..

Let's Go Hunting: Hunting will be a unique and new aspect of gameplay to the Infinity series. Players can find an animal, and go hunting on the main maps. If you defeat it, you earn EXP, and meat that can be sold for gold. You'll also be able to find EVERY animal you killed afterwards, since skeletal remains will stay in the location where the animal was killed.

The Size of the World: One of the most important aspects of the Infinity series, is the world size. While Infinity 3 had a massive world filled with smaller maps, Infinity IV will combine two elements. The large sprawling "no loading" size map from the first game, with the size of the world from the third. There will be two primary maps that are huge, with one based off the size of one of the ocean exploration maps from Infinity 3, and the other a combination of two sizable cities from Infinity 3. But the main aspect of the world, is being able to fill it in. Infinity 3 had alot of empty space, and empty cities. While the fourth game, is going to feel alive. There will be tons of random NPCs to chat with, quests that can be picked up, and pretty much every building will be "enterable". So don't expect to find many locked doors. You'll be able to roam across huge terrain, and find towns and buildings along the way, while also finding smaller towns and areas on their own individual maps.

Where to Find Quests: Main quests can be picked up at Jake's Pub in the starting region, and the closest town. From there you will find quests scattered about the game world. In order to travel to the second main region, you'll need a boat.. a boat you can gain access to by going on a quest from one of the Pub patrons.

Join the Party: Certain quests will earn the player followers who will aid the player in battles, and follow them around the game world. They also serve as a reminder that the quest is active. Upon completion, the followers will leave the party (though some might stay, unsure about this yet).

No Shopping Spree: Unlike Infinity 3, there will be more of a focus on certain items. Rather than just letting the player buy everything from one place, there will be a focus on swords as the main weapon, with smaller shops and new items in different areas around the game. Though a "one-stop shop" might appear late in the game.

Well, that's all for now! I hope you enjoyed this look at what is coming with Infinity IV. So subscribe, comment, and express your thoughts! More information will be coming soon.

Thanks for reading! :)

I like the idea of a questing companion, a retainer of the person who sent you on the quest to keep you on track, or the quest giver themselves. That's an interesting dynamic, especially if the choice isn't always yours. Like a high ranking official ordering you to go do something and keeping one of your regular party members as a hostage to ensure you comply, but sending one of his own men to accompany you. That's cool.

So far it's being used in one particular quest, where the character who gives you the quest will follow you (and will give you his boat, hence unlocking the rest of the game world), and as you move on to the area where you need to go quest-wise, you'll pick up another character.

So the player is free to then avoid the quest, and take these two NPCs around the game world, and even have them fight alongside the player in battles, or even hunts. But of course the main goal is bringing them to the next map, where the quest continues. But it's not being forced onto the player. They can go there at their leisure. :) Once the quest is over, there are two outcomes.

Either the player and the two characters won the fight, and the player parts ways with the two characters, after getting paid.. or they lose the fight, and both characters are murdered in cold blood, and you leave with your life.. with no payment.

Right, well better win that fight then. Though if they die, does that mean I get to keep the boat?

Yep, the boat will remain at the docks. So it essentially becomes abandoned, hence yours.
