Announcement

Destructoid Story Remastered is Now Fixed

Hey, everyone. This isn't the kind of announcement that I like to make, because it's as much a pain in my butt as I'm sure it is a pain in the butt for players, but I screwed up.

I was watching a friend stream Destructoid Story Remastered yesterday night. He tried to get onto Marche's (or my own) route, fulfilling the correct conditions to do so, and the game acted like he fulfilled the requirements at all, moving right along into a bad ending. So as it turns out, I screwed up the variables. There are two flags you have to trigger to get onto my route, and I suppose for the purposes of testing I had put an extra one in and forgot to remove it.

So what I've done is I've of course fixed the game and re-uploaded it. Now if you download it you should be able to play through all of the routes just fine and everything should be peaches and gravy. But if there's anyone out there who has downloaded it previously, has played through it as much as they could and still wants to play through my route without going all the way back through the first act again, shoot me a message. I made a version of the game that plops you right at the beginning of my route, which would be a little less painless than going through the whole thing again. I'll give it out to anyone who wants it.

I guess the moral of the story here is: don't just double or triple check your variables. Quadruple check...quintuple check...do whatever you need to do to make absolutely certain that your variables work properly. All the more so if those variables are use to continue the main story or if you're playing around with them for testing purposes. Because when you screw up and you've already uploaded your game, man that is one of the worst feelings there is as a game creator.

It kind of sucked all the more-so in this case, because I honestly think that my route is the route that people have the most fun with. At least, that's what I've been told by other people who have seen the game in its entirety. So I apologize to anyone out there who has played this, saw that you couldn't get onto my route, and went "hey, what's the big deal here?"

So hopefully this is the last announcement like this that I'll have to make in regards to Destructoid Story Remastered. Sorry again for the trouble, and hopefully everything should be working perfectly now, from beginning to end.

It's Been a While. But Here's the Final Release!

So almost two years ago now (wow, has it really been that long?) I made this visual novel called Destructoid Story with RPG Maker. It was crazy fun to make, and I certainly hope it's fun to play. But some number of months after its release, I got the idea to polish it more thoroughly and add some new content to it. I put Destructoid Story Remastered up on rpgmaker.net when I started that project.

Obviously, seeing as that was over a year ago, the project fell apart.

But I got some motivation to pick it back up again after someone expressed interest in playing it the other day. After all, the copy I had was a broken and buggy mess, so I needed to clean it up if I wanted to let anyone else play it in good conscience.

So, here it is. The final version. I polished the heck out of it (hopefully there aren't any glaring bugs/grammatical mistakes left, or else I'll regret saying that) and it's ready for your consumption. Unfortunately, I did not go through with my original plan to add more content to the game, but that's okay. I think what I'm releasing can stand on its own without all that.

Just to reiterate once again (because the title can be so misleading), you do not have to like/be a member of Destructoid to enjoy this game. Even if you outright hate Destructoid or know nothing about it, you should be able to get just as much enjoyment out of it as anyone else.

So, yeah. Hope anyone who plays it enjoys it.
