Time Lord Origins has a Time Lord, and you get to see their origins, but not much else happens. I didn't realize it would be such a short demo going in -- I clocked about 30 minutes -- and at the end even the characters complain about how short it was!
You play a Time Lord and the game begins by letting you name them, as well as choosing your class from Time Lord, Time Lord Warrior, and Time Lord Scientist. The Time Lord has slightly lower stats than the other two, but beyond that I wasn't able to find any other differences.
It was a debate between my dude and an egg, with an egg as the victor.
After that, you're funneled through two tutorials, one for combat and one for piloting your Tardis. Naturally, the Tardis sounds
exactly how you'd expect.
And it wouldn't be the Tardis without this joke!
As for the combat, thank goodness there's only 4 battles. You just mash that attack button and hope for the best, healing as needed. For the final battle you have access to a second party member with a magic skill, but aside from that there isn't much to it. Notably, the second and third battles include stun and paralysis when you have one party member and can only attack or heal. It's rarely a good thing to include, as I felt the outcome was due entirely to luck.
Hilariously, the game skipped forward five years, and in those five years an egg had never moved past level 2 or healed their past injuries. It didn't affect the fourth battle but it was pretty amusing.
There's some wonky eventing -- the main menu has "Variable I" and "Variable II" in it, and the camping command actually just brings up the combat tutorial text. I didn't run into any game-breaking bugs, although it was at times unclear how to progress.
All in all, it's short and unpolished. There were bits that didn't work as advertised, and the only feature I really got to experience was attending time lord classes (but even then, some remained locked). I found some Sweet Tunes I was told I could play in my Tardis, but I never got the chance. Oh well!
Like many fangames, I did see how much the dev loves the source material and would have been interested in the full game, but the demo that made it out doesn't live up to the description. Still, if you really like the Time Lords from Doctor Who, you might get something out of it, and it's short enough that you might as well pass a break with it sometime.
