Mewd's One Hours

Intro

"Mewd's One Hours" is a really brief visual novel that was created by Mewd using RPG Maker XP as part of a one hour competition. As you can imagine this means this project will be a bit difficult to review since there isn't that much content to discuss. In fact, this game takes about as much time to fully explore as "One Hours" by Forever An Ill Fate. In fact, I think this project was part of the same contest.

Story

You play as the king's 'messanger' and need to hurry to deliver a message to him but get distracted by some delightful music. After a few moments you begin ranting to yourself about how important your job as a 'messanger' is.

After your rant is over your presented with the only fork in this game in that you can choose to either chase after the source of the ethereal music being played in the forest of you can complete your delivery for the king. A choice between being an irresponsible seeker of romance or a responsible adult whose willing to devote himself to his job before pleasure. A choice between being turned into a tree or enjoying a pizza party.

I suppose some would argue I've forever ruined this project for them by spoiling both endings, but considering you can experience both endings in under five minutes. I really don't think I'm ruining much.

Graphics

As far as I can tell the game was comprised entirely of assets found within the RTP. A choice that makes a lot of sense considering the limited amount of time Mewd had to put this together.

Sound

Despite the main story being focused on the main character being led astray by beautiful music. The game is entirely devoid of backgroud music or sound effects. Though at least this game doesn't try to get around the issue by telling the player certain songs are playing in the background.

Conclusion

Regardless of which ending you experience the story really doesn't leave that much of an impact on the audience in my opinion. It doesn't even have the strange appeal of being amazingly weird like "One Hours" going for it. If anything this project is about as remarkable as buttered toast. And the only thing saving it from a harsh rating is the amount of time it was made in.
