Legionwood: Final Edition released!

Saturday, August 4th, 2012

Hi there, Legionwood fans! In celebration of Legionwood being featured on the front page of RPG Maker.net, I'm happy to announce that the Final Edition of the game is now available to download!

The Final Edition is the definitive version of Legionwood. This updated build of the game completely fixes the last of the remaining bugs in the game, restores a smattering of cut beta content to the game (such as the extra floor of the Pirate's Cove and the Adventure theme music) and, best of all, features a completely rewritten script, with every line of dialogue in the game addressed for clarity, brevity and spelling and grammar errors. Each of Legionwood's characters now has a more distinct personality, and there is more emotion and characterisation in the game than in previous builds. Foreshadowing and references to Legionwood 2 have also been inserted into the game, to create a stronger link between the two titles.

All of this work, including rewriting the dialogue and tightening up the game code took me about a month to complete - it wasn't a small task, but I've wanted to update the original Legionwood for a while, so I placed the sequel on hiatus to get it done. Now that the Final Edition is online and ready to play, I'm inviting all Legionwood fans and new players alike to give it a try and pass the time until the next release of Legionwood 2 with a more polished, better written RPG that I'm sure they'll enjoy.

With that said, I'll get back to work on Legionwood 2. Now that the Final Edition of Legionwood is released, I'm happy to move on to the future and make some long-awaited progress on the sequel. Keep an eye out for Beta 3.0 of Legionwood 2 some time in October, and I'll bring you more news on the game's development as it happens.

Here's the part where I make my grand return, and find a ton of bugs. It does sound like a ton of work has been done on it since I lasted played it though. Since my schedule is cleared up for awhile, I'll play the revised copy and see just how much it's improved.

Ps: Do you still visit any of the ircs? Since I've got a good computer now, I'm considering downloading xchat again.

Edit: Found a typo when you first start the game. When you examine the book close to the chest with there shopping money, it says intersting read, instead of interesting.

Edit 2: Actually, I'm going to save for now. I'm not completely sure I should test while I play, or if you want to leave this the final version. (Not to mention I shouldn't post any I find in this blog). I see two possible scenarios for this. If you do want me to test, I can work on compiling a list of remaining bugs while you work on legionwood 2, otherwise if you don't, I'll just play this normally, then test legionwood 2 when I'm done.

Lets make it official...testing or not, the great demon is back in action!
Hi Darc, good to see you back! Hmm, yes, there might still be a typo or two in there - I did rewrite pretty much every line of text, so may have introduced some new ones. Gameplay and technical bugs should all be ironed out by now (except for the party system being broken and allowing you to have five characters, which I intentionally left in because some people actually use it in a tactical capacity).

Play through Legionwood 1 if you haven't already (since you've followed it pretty much from the start) and don't worry about testing - just enjoy it, and I don't intend to make any more updates, anyway.

Now, Legionwood 2, on the other hand... when the next Beta's out, I'll call on you :)
Sounds good. I don't think I ever finished legionwood back then due to multiple interferences in life, but this time I should be back for awhile, so I'm going for 100% completion (including the hidden bosses). I'm certain with my skills I can defeat that super boss of yours.
Downloading now, hope it's as good as you suggest it to be. :P
It's pretty much as you remember it, if you've played it before - just with less bugs, a new area or two and new dialogue. My main intention was to update the writing, and I've wanted to do that for a while.

By the way, if you download the version I uploaded today, you'll be able to unlock a special "true Castoth" final boss if you defeat the Rift Entity and then complete the final dungeon :)
Heh, yeah I downloaded the newest version for the full effect. I think I'm gonna pay even more attention to my character build than last time around. I havn't got far yet, and the only bugs I've seen thus far are typos, though those aren't a big deal. I've already gave lann a white robe and quite a bit of attack, and I'm aiming for a magician for my other character (gave her a whip, and all the elemental spells (including the healing)).

The rift entity shall suffer a humiliating defeat once I get there. I've defeated many a super boss throughout my gaming history, so I suspect that rift is cowering right about now.
Quick question, I've forgotten (or not played) this game. Before I head out, should I grab all the different spells for Liara and deck out the characters? Might need to grind for some money but better to be prepared.

edit: Ah just got beaten to death by bats. Gotta get armour and stuff. :<
If I remember correctly, the game brings up a tutorial tip telling you it's a good idea to gear up. That said, the cave with the bats is a level 2 area - for getting through the opening dungeon (Selatan Plains), the default equipment is enough.

Don't bother buying all the Techs, though. You'll waste your money, and the game isn't designed so that the characters can be good at everything. Only choose Techs that fit your build and try to divide them up between characters :)

See the Statistics and Character Builds tabs at the top of this page for hints!
Hi, Legionwood is a wonderful game, better than many of the console style RPG's i have played ( and i have played a lot ) . I have a quick question, where do i find the key for Wayside Inn?
It's held by a skeleton on the second Frozen Forest map, if I remember correctly.

Thanks a lot. I missed it due to the snow. Is level 33 a good enough level going into Makir? Also, i have to simply bow to the quality of the music. FB001 is one of the best battle music i have heard :). Thanks for putting in such great work, i am looking forward to Legionwood 2

Edit: Sorry for the double posts below, my browser was acting weird

Nothing reveals Humanity so well as the games it plays. A game of betrayal, where the most suspicious person is brutally murdered? How savage.

@Ragnarok Quintiple post much...? Anyway, I agree with you on the music.

I'll download this again soon, and see if it has really improved as much as you claim, Gaia. The version I played still had a lot of bugs in it, but that was a pretty old version...

Also, in that version I played, (something with 5.5, if I remember correctly) the rift entity was too easy. After osmoning and hypothical hitting his MP to 0, he was a pushover. He had a lot of HP, so it took long, but I never was on the verge of dying... not once...
@Ragnarok: Level 33 should be fine. I once completed the game at around level 36.

@Jeroen_Sol: The bugs that were present in the older versions should have all been addressed by now, but please let me know if you find any more. In this version, the Rift Entity is unchanged, but if you defeat him, you unlock a harder version of the final boss that may challenge you. Again, I must stress that the major change in this version is the writing. The rest of the changes are mainly tweaks and additional polishes.
Finally finished this wonderful game in 23 hours at Level 52. Does the final scene where Liara grabs the sword and jumps at Castoth signify anything other than her finally killing the being?
It's supposed to allude to her being stuck there fighting him for all eternity, but I intentionally made it ambiguous. Glad to hear you enjoyed the game! The sequel is still in development, but you can play the entire first chapter (about 4 hours long) if you're eager for more!

Thanks! I will do just that :). Another point which struck me in Legionwood was Merces apparent reluctance to assasinate the kings. Was Merces somewhat of a "good" guy? Did he want Lann to kill Castoth?
