Full Title:
Iron Gaia Part I:
Where Angels Fear To Tread

As the amnesiac test subject designated Number 898462138069001 (as you later learn, structural engineer Armand Carter) you awaken aboard the enigmatic Iron Gaia mobile space station, your memories shattered.

As the only human awake on board the rapidly decaying station, controlled by an insane artificial intelligence with delusions of deification, is up to you to unravel the mystery of your own identity, and to answer the crucial question: what is the Iron Gaia?

Its final version released in 2004, Iron Gaia is the first half of an epic, story-driven science fiction RPG adventure, Iron Gaia packs custom skills, great storytelling, metaphysical angst, memorable characters, unique minigames, a truly vast dungeon crawl into one complete, and if we are to be honest with ourselves, some of the worst graphics you've seen in a long, long time into a full length jRPG style roleplaying game.

Its genre, self-coined, is apocalyptic spacepunk, combining the cheesy high-action grandeur of space opera and the dark, gritty film noir stylings of cyberpunk.

The second half of this game, a long time in the planning, was eventually canceled due to fatal hype, disappointment, overextended ambitions, and impossible to meet expectations. The game did go on to spawn one full-length sequel (a side story, or if you must be all Japaneezy about it, gaiden) a (much prettier) action-RPG made with RPG Maker 2003, three novellas and one complete novel, hundreds of pages of fiction and fan art, and a three year campaign of group story-telling and experimental theater, all of them set over a thousand years in the future posited by this game. The never-completed direct sequel serves as the missing piece in a long, enigmatic, deep and complicated fictional history that this game was the starting point of.

I lied.

"I... I left in a sudden rush
And never said why
You... couldn't know
That I had no goodbyes..."

"I'll call you when the time is right
Are you in or are you out?
For them all to know the end of us all."

"In our sleep, there's more to this nightmare.
Will she beg for your mercy?"

"These are the days. The end complete.
The world still turning to the sound of the suffering.
You are the jury, we are the saints.

Our minds divide, the past repeats.
A war still brewing in the hearts of those we once bled.
I am the knowing, the living dead.

Dig deeper, remember
All you've been and all you've left behind.
Wave goodbye, my dear.
Dig deeper, remember
All you've been and all you've left behind.
Welcome home, my dear."

Allow this year before the world starts to end.

Well I appreciate the sensitivity. : )
Sorry dude, I died at the Aether Nightwurm and didn't want to go through that huge cutscene all over again. Wasn't too bad up to that point, especially for an older game. I think that particular enemy heals himself way too often, and replenishes way too much health.

That's hardly into the game at all but I totally understand. If you ever feel like picking it up again, it gets quite a bit better after that point although it's not like there aren't a few more minor annoyances before you get to the more impressive stuff.

On the plus side, every other game I've made that is available on this site is better.

for some reason, when i try to play the game, an error pops up and says harmony.dll not found... any suggestions?

EDIT: ok, i found the .dll file, but now it is saying that it cannot open the file "Vehicle"

Do you have the RM2k RTP?
Random question. Was Beneath a Steel Sky any part of this game's (or its sequel's) inspiration?

No, actually, I didn't play it until years after I'd finished IGV.

(Overblood was actually a big inspiration.)
I actually think I remember somebody jokingly posting the box art to Overblood in Virus's release thread.

It's a fair cop.
Ever thought about remaking this, Max?

Yes, but the main problem is I have so, so, so many unfinished projects.
I'd say have something make the decision for you, if it helps. Most of the games you've made were pretty interesting, like backstage.

Have something make the decision for me?

Like a...spinner or dice?

Anyway, I've already decided the only two RM games I'm finishing before I quit are Backstage 2 and *UNANNOUNCED SUPERPROJECT*.

An Iron Gaia remake is a really nice idea...but I'm afraid it's not much more than that.
I couldn't find one for Iron Gaia but I found this.

This game is just so damn awesome! My pal who hated RPG Maker Games saw this and fell in love with them!! I really hope you work on the second part!
HI Max
I´ve downloaded the game, extracted the contents to my HD, and executed the RPG_RT.exe file...
I've got a "Run Time Package not found. Install RTPe.exe"

I've tried to find the run time package in the site, or any reference in the forums, the search engine just hates me.

Can you tell me where can I find the files I need to install in order to play the game please?

Thanks in advance

EDIT: Already found it by searching the web, game is running now, will comment on it on a couple days.

Cool, glad you were able to sort this out for yourself! : )
Ok, playing now and liking it...
I'm on the train, on the "World Map".
I want to know if there is at least one open block in the first area...
I've already searched the first 100 blocks, and if you tell me that there is at least one open block among the remaining 300 I'll keep searching.

Thanks

There is, but it may be only in the hard mode of the game. It's been almost ten years and I can't remember. If you like the game enough to replay the new game+ mode and get that far, there is DEFINITELY one open block. It has an optional boss and the game's ultimate weapons.
