Blank Dream, a game you should play.

First off, I would like to state that I don't usually write reviews, not because I don't appreciate the games but simply because I am lazy. Since I was bored and enjoyed your game I decided to go ahead and share my thoughts on it. I even created my own account just for doing this; I would have done it anyway later on since I am starting to play more and more RPG Maker Games.

->Warning:
To put it simply, Blank Dream is a Horror RPG Maker Game that as suicide, death, mentioning of rape, as well as 'jump' scares and just 'normal' scares. Obviously don't play it if you would be disturbed by any of that...

->Brief Initial Plot (Minor Spoilers that are not that important at all since it's revealed like less than 15 minutes in...):
The main character is a girl who one day decided that her life wasn't worth living anymore, bluntly wishing that she had never even existed, she decided to drown herself in a lake, Mirror Lake that is. Unfortunately or Fortunately, I guess the player decides, she is now trapped in some sort of world called "Mirror World". Without memory of who she was or why she was there, she decided to stare at a mirror at the end of a hallway, it didn't have a reflection which was odd, after giving up from looking at the mirror she felt a strange feeling and decided to stare at it again, by doing so she could finally see herself in the mirror, surprisingly, the image spoke back to her and showed her how she could get her memories back, and even potentially how to fulfill her wish of never even existing. To do so she would have to...
Find 6 other mirrors with her image, hidden across 6 realms full of dangers, and destroying them by committing suicide within them while regaining her memories, getting her closer to why she had her wish of not existing.

So the girl sets on an adventure to fulfill her wish, or not...

->My thoughts on the game (Spoiler free version that isn't that much in depth):
I absolutely loved this game, it took me about 3:30h to complete, mind you that I got all the endings, so I recommend doing separate saves before doing anything that could be considerate "important" and just have your main save from after you completed a part of the game without being killed.
I am not a Horror fan at all; it just isn't my thing, so I especially liked the Drama behind the Story, and its 5 possible Endings.
An extra reason should be the game's beautiful Art and Character design, as well as the Story Telling and Character Development.
I totally recommend this game even if you are like me and don't particularly like Horror games.

So give this game a try, you probably won't regret it and will actually love the experience, now moving on to my spoiler opinion of everything.

->My thoughts on the game (Spoiler version that is a lot more in depth):
First off I really liked it, where to begin...

Probably one of the things I found the "funniest" about the game, mind my dark ironic sense of humor, is that you have the option to kill yourself at any point of the game, about 5 minutes in I tried using the dagger to see what it would do just out of curiosity and it really surprised me of how "obvious" it was that it would kill me. Moving on.

Side Characters were interesting to be honest, you have over energetic school girl Yuzu and office worker almost seamed like a pedophile Ryotaro. Yuzu's story was the easiest to complete since her mirrors are easier to find than Ryotaro's, after all he has a mirror hidden in an infinite hallway which is one of those "How would I have guessed it?!?!" moments, then again Teddy Bears were a very subtle tip that Mirrors were nearby, even though I only noticed after finishing the game, GG.
Then we have both of the condemned souls who are trapped eternally for their crimes against Utsuro (I have forgotten their names from lack of a complete guide out there with character names listed), I almost felt bad for them but it added on to why Utsuro hated them so much and why she wanted to never even exist like Mishiro. (Also found it slightly funny that Mishiro just came into that world and just usurped it from Utsuro like it is mentioned in the Endings).

Fortunately for all the air heads out there (semi including me who hadn’t figured out the entire plot because of trying to remember the Japanese names of characters that didn't even appear in the game directly), Yuzu and Ryotaro go over the story you uncovered and explain it, which was nice.

Also poor Ayato who gets ran over by his mother because of her blind rage/overall madness and Utsuro who gets murdered by her mother and "disposed off" in the lake...

As for the Realms, I really liked their individual design (except for the chandelier in the Realm of Beauty that killed me more than 5 times even though it was obvious but I just automatically went there because it was the middle of the room and forgot...), I only wished that the Realm of Blood was full of traps, it invited you to rest before going to the Mirror but after interacting with everything only descriptions were offered, I understand that Mishiro was trying to go for the Mirror as fast as possible but I would have appreciated if all that luxury would have been secretly a trap to kill you, besides the 5th ending were you go insane.

Ending wise there is only 1 Bad End, which is the 5th, I kind of had hope that every Realm had its own "Bad End" besides just dying, but those hopes are just my "after playing" realizations and not something I felt while playing.
I almost cried at Ending 1, I didn't because I was bluntly interrupted before viewing the entire End which sort of got me off the mood it was building up... But that was "me" problems, absolutely nothing wrong with the ends, I even found the 5th and 4th End quite accomplishing, while the 3rd and 2nd just felt "incomplete", but I can understand that it was the feeling that was trying to be achieved there.

Besides the little "things" I pointed out the game is outstanding, which is why I am giving it a 5, it truly was a hell of a game, finding the mirrors and the story behind all the characters and over all just a fun trip full of feels.

Thank's for the tips on how I should format the review xince it was my first one. Thanks to Vgperson who translated the game into English. Thanks to StormTorn for 'publishing' the game on RMN. And thanks to the original author who created the game in japanese that will probably never see this.

(Side note: Forgetting to spell check and being dyslexic doesn't help at all)

Also some parts of this review read pretty much like a comment that should on the gamepage so the developer can get back to you and answer your questions. But yeah, really format this thing, and have a look at capitalisation, putting this into a word processor programme with grammar/spelling check on will point those out for you and make this a much easier read for potential players.

Not a bad effort for a first review though, just needs a bit of care and polish.

The developer can't get back to them, this game is not by them, it is by a japanese developer, it was just translated to english by Vgperson and someone moved it over to rmn

Then it definitely shouldn't be in the review, it's not going to be seen by the dev and it's not something of use to potential players.

Well I wrote a review too(no one cares about it anyway), but it gets the game in highly rated so people can know what good games to play ^^ So I guess it is still worth writing a review for if you like it to categorize it better on rmn
Thanks for the tips on how I should format the review, hopefully it should look a lot better. Looking back it really looked bad...
Anyway it should be fine now.

I actually noticed you had written a review before I did mine! I wanted to take inspiration from it on how to base my review but yours looked a bit, not as indeph as I intended to make it, which is cool since someone had to do the "not as serious review that is funny at times while still reviewing the game properlly".

:P

But seriouslly I like it!

Can you please reformat this review so that it isn't a complete mess. Things you need to do include making your headings more obvious using bold and/or underline, and adding a space between each of your paragraphs so that breaks are easier to spot (which you have done in places, but not in other places, making the problem worse if I'm honest!). Some of your "paragraphs" should also be combined since you've got single-sentence "paragraphs" and that's kinda silly.

Here is an example:

This would be much easier to read than what's in your review.

I have hopefully fixed the issues you had pointed out to me, it was my first review so I had no idea how to do it; but after I made those changes it does look a lot better.

If you still think anything else could be changed please do tell me!

You've also still got some issues with over-capitalisation, but they don't prevent comprehension, so well done for taking the advice on board.

Frogge I read your review :).
