Last but not least!

Hello, lone adventurers!
"The Last Girl on Earth" is a 35-40 minutes short game made by Drassray that was created with RPG Maker VX Ace for a contest held on an external site in 2015.

The game starts... after the events of the game! Laeta, the protagonist, is telling to her daughter of a time, years before, when she believed she was the... Last Girl on Earth! But looks like that she met her future lover and father of the girl.
Laeta in the past was a real survivor, looking for flesh-eating mushrooms and gathering berries for jam. The forest is filled of some classic monsters like gian scorpions and slimes, but our heroine hears a music... what's going on?

Oh it seems that Laeta the last girl has to fight some critters, but...

Aaaaand this is basically the whole story and adventure, there's not a lot happening here, and not even many characters. Or a backstory! Why Laeta was living in the forest? And what happens after this adventure? The ending credits has a promise, "the adventure will continue", but that's a broken promise.

Ok, now the gameplay: no puzzles and not a lot of events or dialogues happening, what you will have to do are some battles against feral creatures. The game has a single party member, Laeta of course, that has various skills (some really useful because for example one can stun the opponents). These are activated spending the classic TPs, that unlike the MPs are gained during the battle, so the abilities can be used only after a while, but the biggest problem is that you have a single character for most of the game, so there is not much room for strategy. To tell the truth during the final part Vincent joins the team, and in any case his skills aren't really useful but ok, the game ends after the boss and that's it.
There are also some weird things, like rats dropping money, unlike other enemies... and that's not even useful since there are no shops in the game, just Laeta's bed that can be used to rest and restore her. Basically a no-cost inn!

Graphically the game is not bad, it use greyscale graphics with edited Rtps and some custom made assets, it's peculiar and pretty good, even if I wonder why the use of the greyscale. But it's ok. Music is even better, since the developer used some original themes. Well done!

... Laeta the last girl can defend herself effectively even when outnumbered!

The Final Verdict
"The Last Girl on Earth" is not a bad game, but sadly it feels it miss something! Maybe a real complete story? It's a little series of events that leaves a lot of questions and does not explain almost anything about the plot. So... it's a bit meh, also the gameplay isn't really exciting, in the end this feels like a nice introduction to a longer complete game, rather than a short complete game!
On the other hand it's not bad, and I've probably played worse event games, but still it's not a game a can really recommend.
