Progress Report

Working On Polish and Finishing Up

I'm graduating so it'll be slow now (and thereafter as I find work) but work is being done on Haven. See some results for yourself below. And remember to support Haven on Steam Greenlight: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=582462302

Progress Report

Hotifx Out

I was made aware of some game breaking stuff and I believe I fixed it. The game version number didn't change but downloads now say "Hotfix."

Again, I am not currently developing Haven. I'm working on a port of MNIA. See the previous blog post for more information.

Announcement

Haven - Why Are Updates Slow?

This will be a somewhat informal post for the sake of getting across a decent amount of information in a short time. Originally I wrote something larger but decided to cut it down entirely as I find no matter how detailed I am someone will punish me for some benign thing I say.

I've been making games for ten years and my childhood dream was to make video games for a living. However, I'm given an industry that is largely influenced by what is popular than what is good. What is sliced into DLC than what is whole. What is heralded by the media and what is scorned.

I've been on Steam Greenlight for 4+ years. I could of cheated to get onto Steam like apparently so many other developers have. I didn't and yet I'm still not support by consumers who purchased games from these "cheating" developers.

I'd get more specific but as I said no matter what I say I'm going to lose. It's how it's always been for these 4+ years no matter how respectful I am. I'd rather try to lose as little as possible but I'm failing at that miserably.

Right now, I'm working on porting My Name is Addiction, a visual novel I made about port addiction (and other things), to HTML5 for upload on sites like Newgrounds because nobody knows I exist. The biggest problem for any indie is getting discovered and without the gaming media reporting on you and your titles good luck getting anyone to care. Grass Simulator got more press coverage than me.

To me, this is all some big joke, and believe me I'm laughing.

If you wish you can download and read/experience My Name is Addiction right now: https://cleril.itch.io/my-name-is-addiction

Otherwise, I need to port over a bit more of it before I can upload a demo on the internet that maybe will finally get some buzz around it. If you actually read it you'll be shocked that it hasn't gone viral.

If you wish to support me on Greenlight:

If you think I'm one some high horse you're sadly mistaken. I'm utterly defeated by the last 4+ years.

Progress Report

0.8.8 Released

Currently still uploading to the site. The RTP included version is currently up. The non-RTP is compressing as this posts.

This update fixed some rather major bugs (that were hard for a typical user to ever encounter mind you).

The Jester's sidequest should function perfectly fine.

You can no longer swap party members before you're supposed to even have party members. And if you try so help you I have prepared a joke which you will laugh at.

I'll make a separate blog post "soon" explaining why updates for Haven are minimal and not going to occur for a while. The short of it is that I'm focusing on porting over a visual novel that is already 200% done (I literally rewrote it so yes, 200% is accurate) to HTML5 so people know it exists (since nobody wants to download it and the gaming media refused to acknowledge it exists despite 300+ emails).

Progress Report

0.8.7 Released

Changes from previous download (0.8.5): New menu screen, updated The Stranger's Face, his character sprite, added custom sound effects for menu operations (cancel, select, move cursor, etc.), and updated the text window with custom cursor and border.

This update is solely for polishing purposes. There are no changes to game content so if you downloaded 0.8.5 before there is nothing new content-wise.

NOTE: I will fix the animation for The Stranger today. It's wonky. I will not post an announcement or change the version number for this change. Currently compressing the fixed animation as this post is put up.
