I was thinking about a text color that was significantly brighter than the background. Maybe it's better to have the text white, or even grey?

Maybe make a skill for Dynadog that basically lowers the party's stats, or stuns them, or something. It could be called "Bark".

Also, all of the pass-ability issues in the forest can be fixed by simply changing the placement of the details that are placed on top of the cliffs/higher ground. There's also a magic red mushroom that blocks the player's path near a treasure in the forest. :3
Nah, the passibility issue was on the world map. The trees were set as passable so you could just avoid the event that takes you to the Forest of No Return and just walk straight to Upperhill Estate and fight the final boss.

I don't doubt there's stupid mushrooms getting in the way. There was a big red flower/mushroom thing that was impassible on a mandatory one tile wide path you had to take that I only caught on my last test playthrough. If I didn't fuck up the dirt road's passibility it could've resulted in the first release of the game being unwinnable!

I do have some ideas for DD but I'd like to avoid party wide stuns, there's nothing for the player to mitigate it and it's easy for the rng to screw the player over with small parties. Final Fantasy Mystic Quest had that issue, it's an easy game but it's super easy to get rng screwed when one enemy OHKO/Petrifies/Paralyzes your partner then the main character right after. It's probably the cause of 99% of deaths in that game. I got some ideas but we'll see how it turns out, got lots of fixing to do first!
There actually are quite a bunch of pass-ability issues in the forest. All of them are caused by ground details, on top of the cliffs, that are set to passable. You can walk on top of the cliffs (without any kind of elevation supplement, like stairs, or a ladder etc.). All you need to make sure is to move the passable details from the cliff edges that are reachable by the player.

The dirt road error was a close call indeed, my friend!

You can make the skill only stun one player. The Stun status can be automatically removed after a turn. I'm just giving you some tips though. I always appreciate a nice surprise. :)
Ahh, I see what you mean wrt the forest stuff. I forgot about that quirk of passability settings. Worst case I'll use the region passiblity script I used for Upperhill Estate to fix my mistakes, should be quicker than dealing with cleaning up the cliff area.

I got some ideas for Dynadoggy and I think it'll be good without retreating on the other boss gimmicks (he will def. bark now too). I'll probably expand on the Mail Thief Commander's skill list too since he's pretty basic atm.
I can definitely clean up the place if you want I just noticed that event hasn't ended yet! Good luck with the final touches! I look forward to replay this one.
afaik It's open so that Jeroen Sol could get his partner's game download submitted since he forgot to do that. The event proper is over (but if I am quick I can get a second download for a cleaned up version and hope the judges play that instead of the original!)
That would be super ninja of you! You can do it! ^^
Uploaded a new and super sexy improved edition! Hilarious good times of what I did are below:

  • So I had completely forgotten that the O setting on second layer tiles overrides passibility and I decorated the shit out of some barriers with those which lead to hilarious good times being able to walk up cliffs in the forest. The cliffs are no longer scalable by human hands and I didn't even have to touch my messy decorations!

  • Moved a fat flower thing so it doesn't obstruct the player's passage in the Forest that leads to the Chainmail.

  • In the continued quest of fixing passibility issues I made trees on the world map impassible so that the player couldn't skip the Forest dungeon. However! This also meant the player can't access the second town store between the Forest and Upperhill Estate! I had to choose between making palm trees the only passible trees or bulldozing the whole thing down which I'm fairly certain would violate a rule so I did the only sensible option and drove the bulldozer myself! Good riddance palm trees! Hello store so the player can stock up for the endgame!

  • The Saint Smith now takes the Superior Ore and Everclear he uses when upgrading Candy's sword! The cause of this Grinch-hearted action is still unclear but experts suspect it has to do with being able to get the ultimate sword immediately when the player reaches The Red House!

  • The boulders in Dankalong's Caverns now roll uphill faster and disappear into the mysterious abyss once the player leaves said Caverns! Now if somehow the player has trouble with the bridge encounter they can grind up their feeble RPG skills quicker!

  • The tint screen carried into battle made it really hard to see so I found a way to hide it in battle! Actually it feels like it went too far in the other direction compared to the maps so I flipped a coin to see what way I'd go with it and removing the tint won.

  • Most enemies got general buffs and changes to AI! Now instead of simply letting your dog chew on your gamepad and/or keyboard to beat the game, your dog will break your gamepad and/or keyboard approximately 43 seconds before completing the game! Take that dogs!

  • Seriously the Mail Thief Commander is set to use his kazoo at what the editor reports as 0% ~ 107610112... and I'm half surprised this is still a thing!

  • DynaDog now has more than two things it can do! And more HP! It even licks itself now! Good doggy!

  • Fixed and rewrote various bits of text to make it fit text windows better. Fixed a typo or two. And fixed some event issues at the endgame like followers being annoying and Candy & Tequila not getting the hell out of dodge because I was trying to tell the door to rip itself off the wall instead!

  • Fixed luiishu535's typo of his own name in the credits! See, I just copied his from the CREDITS.txt he supplied! Totally not my fault! Not spelling Liberta's name write on the other hand is all me, as is forgetting to credit the scripters whose material was used in this game!

  • A few other little things here and there, forgotten skill animations, corrected descriptions, made Everclear better, and failed to make Everclear even better!

  • Alright I'm done now. It was fun getting back into RPG Maker and hot damn am I ever rusty at it! I should make another game in it soonish so I can try to embarrass myself less next time!

e: lol fuck our hide tags

e2: To be clear I'm not totally done with this game. luiishu if you need any help making your edition let me know and I can try to help!
This sounds awesome! I'll give this another go tomorrow. Also, you did a fantastic job with the gamepage pimping! I love it.

I'll probably add the logo and some other things tomorrow, since I'll be pretty busy today.

@e2: Sure, dude! I'll keep you in tune.

EDIT: Man, my name is so obnoxious that even I can't spell it sometimes! x'D

That's pretty impressive, considering that I can't spell my own name right sometimes. xD Also, Santa Saint wishes you a Merry Christmas! HOHOHO!

It sounds kind of Japanese with I at the end. Thanks man! It means a lot.

random thoughts
cant really call its eves dropping since not only do they live in the same place. but the topic they were discussing involved candy

when entering your homes (on the world map) from the south. you should appear at the south exit of your house not the north

signs that say nothing make me sad :( signs are meant to have info!

candy can use wind slash outside of battle
Tequila can use Antimatter rifle outside of battle

candys grapple.inspire and meteor rain skill say that cherry is doing it.

when you are equipping gear + is supposed to be green not red.

yup a quick boulder puzzle is a lot better then being demolished by that monster

you can sell the superior ore (its a key item i assume you need it)

fate is cruel i tell you. and the irony of the troll on a bridge.

the mapping is great

The story is not what i expected it to be at all. i was expecting it to you know...be a letter from hell.
delivering a letter from beyond the grave kind of deal.
in that regard i'm disappointed :(
so the ended was well...uninspiring.

general 45M+
This was not what i was expecting based on the title which was misleading.
we had battles and a ending (yeah cant say much :3)a lack of depth for the characters.
and some grammar mistakes.

What i liked was the mapping very neat and to the point.also female leads! :3
thats about it O.O

Overall
was a okay experience.
Thanks for playing, shayoko! I don't have any comments on most of the stuff mentioned, mainly since it concerns the second half of the game (GRS' half).
I did not have time to add a sign and edit the transfer between Candy/Tequila's house, since I started working on this game too late.

I was (and still am) going to make the game pretty dark and morbid near the end, hence the name of the game. There's a reason why I named it Letter From Hell and not Letter of Hell. The game has some hints at my original vision, like the man in the Dankalong Cavern, that tells you that Mr. Dinkles has another name.

I'm not going to spoil too much, since I am indeed planning to release my original vision for this game. Hopefully you'll find some more "hell" when/if you'll play it. :)

I will take your comments into consideration when I'll start working on my vision. Thanks again!
Damnit I thought I got all those cherries removed! The Superior Ore is intended to be something the player can sell, it creates an opportunity cost of getting Candy's best sword. The player can sell the ores for 2k or upgrade the sword (and one of the three Everclears) while Candy's second best sword costs like 1.1k. There might be tough choices for the player there in a better and more transparent game but oh well! v

Thanks for the feedback!
Great plot twist at the end. It had me in tears :'(

We demand an sequel.

;)
I guess you never saw that coming, did you? ;)

I don't have a sequel planned, but both Candy and Tequila will appear in my new game, which I'll leave as a secret for now. Stay tuned though!
yes, never saw that cumming.

I don't know why but your bats always give me my first game over in your games

Drinking tequila with candy is a great combo, instead of salt and lime. I'll be looking forward of that cameo. I hope they have a kid, I mean, make a bad ass entrance in your next game

Hehehe, my bats are pure evil. xD I didn't have the time to balance the game, since I only had time to work on my part for a little less than a day.

Tequila and Candy? Lol, they're mother and daughter, you silly-boy! xD They'll be pretty cool in my next game. I might add a feature that lets you have sex with Tequila in the local bar's WC, just for fun. xP
If you don't nerf the bats, I am legitimately going to start an petition to stop you from over powering your bats lol

CANDY IS A GIRL? the more I know.

HA, that would be hilarious. You should do it. I dare you. Funny thing is, I was planning to do that in my comedy game, meet Luiishu at a bar and have sex with him for 100k.
