Hello, postmen and postwomen!
Luiishu535 and GreatRedSpirit are the authors of this RPG Maker VX Ace game titled Letter From Hell, made in 2016 for a Swap in the Middle with You event where a developer was tasked with starting a game and then handing it over to someone else to finish it (Luiishu535 started it and GreatRedSpirit finished it). Basically a chain game with just two developers.
The story is about two postwomen, Tequila and her daughter Candy that are instructed by Mr. Dinkles to deliver a letter to someone called B.J. Bottomheart that lives in the Upperhill Estate. This means crossing caverns and the Forest of No Return, and this means encountering monsters, luckily our two heroines (a mail milf and a mail gal) are skilled using swords and guns... anyway it won't be an easy trip, trust me!
Some people are pessimists, others are optimists... and then there's Candy!
The game is a classic RPG Maker VX Ace adventure with a two heroes party, one skilled with guns and the other with swords, the game includes a even a crafting (but slightly bugged) Santa helper and a classic boulder puzzle (the kind where you have to push boulders around, or in other games crates and barrels, to create a path and exit the area).
But the real "meat" of the game consists in linear dungeons and battles with tough encounter enemies, and a little grinding is necessary to avoid being overwhelmed by the classic mandatory bosses. Nothing new, of course, characters have skills, that require expending MPs or TPs and they get more by earning levels and getting stronger. Pretty simple, but ok this is a little and linear 30-minutes adventure, nothing more!
Visually the game is ok, I mean nothing new but the RTPs are used well for the most part and mapping is pretty much ok (Luiishu535 did a slightly better job, in my opinion), the only problem for me was the excessive use of fog to create an atmosphere of creepyness (that contrasts with the humor of the game, but not in a bad way). Music is ok, I liked the use of ukulele and kazoos and the ending song was the best!
NICE! A classic boulder puzzle game! Fun for all the family!
Final Verdict
Letter From Hell is not a bad game, on the contrary I like when two different developers can create a funny little adventure, with some little glitches and imprecisions and typos that luckily do not mar too much the enjoyment. This is just a little fun 30-minutes dungeon delving adventure with some fun scenes and just a couple of characters. An ok game!
