The plot
Dread Islands takes place in an apocalyptic world, where humanity is struggling to fight back against the undead. One corporation is trying to make a stand, helping people. and you're working for them. Sent on a mission to recover data on an experiment from a scientist who just turned rogue, you will soon find yourself in an impossible situation where you must make difficult choices in order to survive. The lives of many are in your hands... or are they? Could it be that you're just a pawn being thrown into a shady plan?

The game is atmospheric with a dark ambiance. While not strictly horror, such elements are present in the game. Evil corporations mix up with the mystical cosmic horrors of the void. 

During the course of your adventures, you'll meet many companions and followers. Some like or dislike each other, and some will like or dislike you. The way you interact with them, or if you give them certain supplies they're looking for, they may start liking you more. After the first chapter, you're able to set up camp and talk with those who share your journey.

Game system and rules
At its core, Dread Islands is a somewhat standard active-time battle RPG. You may have played a few like those, such as Final Fantasy 7. The game is meant to be hard, and you'll have to manage your usable items and decide which party members and weapons to bring into battle, as some monsters may have various resistances to different kind of weapons.

Every game will be more or less unique. You will spend some time trying to find items in order to survive, such as food or water. The catch, though, the looting system is random. You won't find everything you want and you must manage your ressources wisely. Is it better to use an item you've found, or save it later to craft something else? You should also know, death is permanent in this game. If one of your party members go down, you only have a short time to revive them before they're lost forever. Should the protagonist go down, it'll be game over if he or she is not revived in time.

About me 
I'm currently studying in a college in order to be a videogame or cinema writer. So about one year ago I started a project, worked with a few people who gave me a hand here and there. Eventually summer ended and we all started being too busy with work or school (in my case both) to give the project any more time. However, at the moment I have way more free time and I decided that I should resume work on the project, and I intend to finish it eventually, over time. 
So here's Dread Island. Please note that there are a lot of assets that you may have seen elsewhere, mostly portraits and songs. While I'm starting to learn how to pixel draw and I can edit songs to make a mix, I'm by no means a profesionnal. So no, no fancy graphics yet, sorry

Known Issue
THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! 
There is currently a major glitch that I am unable to fix at the moment. In a few specific places, when the combats ends and you're holding down a directional arrow, the game may crash to the desktop. In order to avoid this, try to remember to just hit Z whenever you're finishing a combat, and make sure you're back at controlling your character before trying to move. The frequency of this happening is random, but there's one specific place where the player has a time limit to accomplish an objective, and it's tempting to hold down the buttons after a fight to save a few mili seconds.

Please note
Many of the assets are temporary. Faces, sprites, tiles may be changed at a later date, when I become better at drawing pixel art. Music may or may not be changed.

Final Words
The game may not look exceptional compared to some of the amazing projects I've seen around, but I'm still rather proud of what has been created considering how little help I had, especially in the first part of the game. I've struggled a long time to finding what I would like to do with my life, and I'm happy to settle on writing. Any feedback would be really valuable to me, you get 1000 internet points for each review you give me. Of course, writing is the most important aspect, but I'll take any comments since I want to keep making the game.

In the next part, you'll have : needs management, open world, side quests, emotional moments, even darker story.
