Usagito Watashi review by AkarithePeanut

It´s a simple, enjoyable and relatively short game with an interesting atmosphere. It does well for what it promises. I suggest to give it a quick play; you´ll decide soon if it´s the kind of game you like.

-character background and development (4/5)
The characters give a great impression at the beginning, and make the player curious of their past and personalities. It´s easy to relate to the protagonist, does get information about the characters and settings while playing the game. On the other hand the protagonist´s relationship the environment (how did she fit in there before the game began) and party member could be more defined or give hints for players to think about. The game is short so is understandable that there is no player development.

-soundtrack + graphic design and concept of art (3,5/5)
I think soundtrack is repetitive but combines well with the game´s atmosphere.
The graphic design when playing is simple and well made for the aims of the game. We see a picture in full body of the protagonist in the introduction; it is great, but should be able to be seen more times (it is only seen at the beginning and end of the game). At the same time to have pictures of other important characters would be great as the game lacks that in my opinion, however in boss battles we can see nice pixel pictures.

-interface and user interaction (3,5/5)
The interaction with objects and exploration is easy to do, however not detailed, but remains good for the game´s aims. Battles are simple, yet a bit slow. I catch no bugs. And, within game´s limitations, it´s an easy ride. There´s no explanation for using the menu, but it´s not a problem as it is a simple interface.

-story development (3,5/5)
We are given some information on the characters and environment, and it´s a good setting, but are not completely clear on the way all of them fit together. We know the aim of the protagonist, but there are some loose ends around regarding the place (did she lived on that place? Or she traveled from before? Where would be her home?). There are certain elements we see at the beginning but don´t see too often or become relatively irrelevant to the story (example: the PC´s only appear at the beginning offer information saying something similar to “process corrupted” but posterior computers don´t say anything like that) which ends in a form of Checkhov´s gun concept (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chekhov%27s_gun)

Overall score: 3,6
