Looking for something silly to play, I tried out Tainy's Avenchur 2: Silver Edition. I'm really not sure how I feel about it exactly. I had fun playing it, but I can't say that it's a JOKE game either. I mean, I don't remember reading anything that made me laugh out loud or found any moments that made me think "That was Awesome". That said, the game has potential and has a lot of merit in many areas.

I do realize that this is a work in progress, and I downloaded version 1.1 and played through just once.

The Story:
Very simple story. You are Tainy, an 11 year old foul mouthed kid, who embarks upon a quest to stop SOULRAIN from the evil he's doing to the world of Unikom.

That's pretty much the only story there is to tell. The characters don't actually talk much, and most of the dialogue doesn't really say why the world is in the state that it is, except that Soulrain is the one to blame.

Game Play:
Game play is very straight forward RM2K/3. It's a linear journey from one town to the next, with boss battles in between. The battles are very easy, and you'll make use of different skills (such as Swear Words, Sick Burn, and Cancer Emissions) to win against the bosses. Tainy has a HIGH amount of hit points for an 11-year old, and you'll level up very fast that by the end of the game, you'll be at least level 60.

As you travel, you will come across many forks in the road, but either fork you take will bring you back to the main path again, but I wanted all the capsules (treasure chests), so I explored every nook and cranny (I think). Speaking of capsules... there's one that results in an instant game over! (Just kidding.., not I'm not.. yes I am.). Save your game often!

Another thing I really liked was that random encounters only occur in the shaded grass spots along the path, and inside of dungeons. You can avoid some battles by staying on the lighter grass instead.

Graphics:
The graphics in this game are refreshing. While there is still some RTP characters, most of the world showcases a vibrant and colorful array of simple, clean tiles. Bright greens, reds, and blues make up this games color palette, and it was a joy to walk through. Tainy also reminds me of Elan from "Order of the Stick", so that's a plus in my book.

When battle began... there was a brief moment that I actually thought this game had a custom battle system. It doesn't, but the backdrops actually tricked me into believing it did, because they look just like the rest of the maps.

Who knew this was a side view battle?

Sound and Music:
All of the music is NES Chiptune style music. Some of it is annoying, some of it is catchy... and some of it is annoyingly catchy! I'd have to say that my favorite track is when exploring Hell, at least during the first level. Level 2 has a slowed down version of the same song... and level 3 slows it down even more.

The sound effects are also NES style sounds... but I REALLY liked the sound effects when you use the swear words skill in battle. It was totally worth playing this game just to hear Tainy (I assume this is Tainy's voice) yell the word "BUUULLSHIT!" and wipe out the entire enemy party. That actually is kinda awesome.

In Conclusion:
Tainy's Advenchur 2 has a lot going for it, but I think it's missing something. Whether that's more wackiness, or more detail involving the townspeople and how Soulrain has wrecked their lives, I'm not sure. There's a big opportunity for humor at the plantations, where every kid says the same thing right now.

I look forward to playing the completed game in the future, it kept me entertained for a few hours over the course of two days. Try it out!

fun fact: the tainy voice (the one that shouts bullshit) is actually a clip of me (the creator of tainy) that the devs took from a video
