Houses with not much in vs locked houses.
Occasionally having locked doors (especially for homes) lends a bit more to realism. People don't generally let strangers barge into their home, I would assume.

RMVX tiletset limitation
You could try SwapXT. It's a swapping script that "shuffles" different tilesets and passage settings into play. Technically your game could feature an unlimited amount of tilesets with this script. It's pretty much what everyone uses for VX when they want to expand their tileset capacity without resorting to parallax mapping. The only drawback is that all the swapping can get a bit tedious.

[EVENT] Community project: Super RMN RPG VX
I'll have a go at this. I have some really good RTP VX maps that I abandoned awhile ago after I did a tileset swap. Maybe now the effort that went into them won't be wasted. Im not sure about which variables and switches i'll need, so i'll just take the next set after Kentona.

I mean, I know I said above that they have a lack of games, but most of the current PSP library is crap and so is the PS3's, so they need to focus on gaming more console, and portabloe wise. Oh and a little off topic with the PS3, but Blu-ray is dead/dying. So fanboys can't use that as an excuse toward Xbox 360 fans, or DS fans.
Update: I also forgot to mention the fact that I believe they want this to be download only. I really hope they change that because this idea has already failed them and adding thousands of dollars of inside parts and features isn't going to help that fact. Remember the PSP-Go?
I'll have to agree with you about the PSP. There was an overwhelming lack of games for it and Sony didn't seem to care enough about the gaming aspect of the system. However, I'd say the PS3 has been doing really well in these areas. They have a much larger set of exclusive games coming out this year than Wii or Xbox. Regarding the update, Sony already announced that the NGP will use physical game cartridges very similar in shape and size to what the 3DS uses.
