HELLBOUND was rejected for the maps, which I have no time whatsoever to go back and redo (Law school). So, unless someone wants to go and remake all the mapping in the game, it's probably not going to be on this site. It's on GameJolt, though.

You don't have to redo them, just spruce them up a bit. It doesn't take a lot of effort. You only need three map screenshots that look decent. (They don't even need to look professional. Just decent, proving you know how to use them on a base level).

If you're too busy with law school, that's understandable. However, I find here a much better place to get traffic for your RPG than Game Jolt, as I get over three times more downloads here.
That's fair. I may have time to redo some of the maps (or 'spruce' them) after May, but until then there's just no way. haha
Take your time then :) Good luck with law school!

I don't know why that is about Game Jolt. It seems like the really shitty MLG meme games and fangames get more spotlight than actual quality work.

I don't like Game Jolt. never had much success with it. It's probably the volume of other games and the fact that if you type in"zombie" there's a billion of them
RMN is a place for rpgs and the lists are far more narrow in most genres

plus I feel safer here
I am friends (loosely) with CROS, the creator and administrator of GameJolt. He's a cool guy and really made a slick website (I am envious).

The site attracted a certain type of game over time - they always had a broader gamut of game types than what RMN focused on (RPGs and adventure games duh), but as a result action and arcade games begun to dominate. It's just what it is.

A handful of my games are on GameJolt. They do okay.
GameJolt is appealing because you can upload your game there without having to have it vetted. That's appealing at face value, because it's easy and doesn't require any sort of voting / approval process. I uploaded HELLBOUND to Game Jolt for that reason after having gone through the hellish (pun intended) Steam Greenlight process, which I / the game was DEFINITELY not ready for.

(like, at all)

That being said, if there is legitimate interest in a version of HELLBOUND with better maps, I might invest time in it as a cool off thing for when I'm studying for finals. I dunno. At like, ~60 plays on GameJolt though it just doesn't seem worth it at the moment.

Those processes separate the wheat from the chaff and I think that benefits everyone

edit: I started out with the same mentality. Only posting on rpgmaker forums because it was easy and I was fearful of uploading my game onto RMN which requires a screening.
Check out my game Infection four versions ago I uploaded it onto RMN and gained a lot of experience and knowledge since then making it better than I could have ever done alone or by just getting downloads.
If you're looking for advice/feedback/criticism and to become better the best thing you could do is upload your game on RMN.
It's a different community than Game Jolt and better all around for those purposes. The fact is you will learn shit from GJ. This place will make you better.

For reference from the 2nd version(yes it used to be worse)

...except the person that has to do the chaffing.

We burn through a game submission moderator every year or so.

A noble sacrifice!
I sometimes feel chaff still makes it through which is sad.

I get that the approval processes have their benefits. It's just kind of a bummer to learn about this now, when remaking a lot of the rooms (especially the first room, which a lot of the events call back to / take place in) would be a huge time sink into something that's already not doing so well.

Basically, I'm just salty.

Edit: And I know that the flip-side is to say "Well, maybe if you reworked the mapping and made it look better, more people would play it," but seeing as though Meme Simulator 420 and Pokemon With Curse Words are the only games that seem to do well on Game Jolt, and there's no guarantee that the game would get on RPG Maker.net (here), it just doesn't seem like it's worth my time. And the best thing to do would be to move on to the next project.

Going through the screenshots of your game on GJ, the mapping is not too bad but you need to condense your space a little bit.

The map of the girl's room is WAAAAAAY bigger than it needs to be. Think about what the player is going to spend doing in a room like that. Large rooms with lots of empty space not only looks bad, but isn't really functional for the game since it adds needless padding while walking through a simple section.

Other than that, the screens I saw are okay. Not necessarily the greatest, but I think it'll be passable once you spruce things up.

Gamejolt's lack of quality control is arguably its biggest problem.

I'm doing a little bit of sprucing now. The game definitely isn't notable or anything for its graphics. More of a story / character / tone driven thing.

You're doomed to failure.

I mean, really.
The only legitimate interest should be found within yourself. :PP
Either do it or don't do it.
