New Theory on the "Zelda Timeline"
This is a subject that i have thought about, and have discovered that there are some Zeldas that are in a parallel world. Thus in a new timeline. It isn't the first time that they've done it. The Wind Waker games are in fact a sequel to the Zelda:OOT , but he failed in that world. They had a sequel to A link to the Past, where a Link from a parallel world came to save Hyrule.
So no, they are not one game just retold.. they only one who would know the timeline... is the creator and the people working on it now. They have not released much, but we can learn which games are sequels to what game. Zelda: Link's awakening is a sequel to A link to the past. Of course, you know Zelda II is a sequel to Zelda 1. The seasons games... I have no idea. But I do know that they were going to remake the zelda 1, as the 3rd of the Seasons game. Zelda Majora's Mask is a sequel to Zelda: OOT.
The big problem is that you'd have to sort out which ones are parallel worlds and try to figure out the timeline of the ones left over. Not an easy task, and it's better just to wait to see if they'll release one. The makers are attempting to clear up the timeline, that was their goal and they stated that a few years ago.

Racial Diverstiy In RPG's
I can understand your confusion, but yes, there is genetic differences between people of different races. Teeth are different, and the lab can take a sample of blood and be able to tell what you are made up from (by percentage). But this is hardly what this topic is about, isn't it? It's about racial diversity in RPGs... You have to forgive the earlier ones, as they were only meant for a Japanese audience.
These days, there is a lot of diversity, but I think this is more of a: Why isn't there more minority "Main" characters than why isn't there more minority npc characters. Or some rpgs, which will have a character: WHY AM I HERE, WHEN THERE ISN"T A VILLAGE OF PEOPLE LOOKING LIKE ME! Barret is a really good example of this though, where is a village of black people in Final Fantasy VII?
No, most of them are mixed in other towns, or aka multi-cultural nations. Multi-cultural nations are the bane of diversity, than supporting it, and encouraging it, it destroys such diversity. (Because as you might not know, nations with one or more cultures can not co-exist.) My suggestion isn't to get mad, or yelling at anyone, but made a game of your own that has a grand story, with black people, or whatever minority characters you want.
I think more people are afraid of having such characters, because they might get the whole: "What in the hell would you know about being ....(Insert race here)" My two cents, just think about it, if more indie gamers (who were minorities) created games with minority main characters, and they became successful. The gaming market would in fact change along with it.
