I've recently gained some weight and need to lose it again. I hate running. The problem of swimming is that pool would cost me some 5 bucks a day.

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Floor hockey or street hockey. Thats my vote.
Honestly, diet is way more important than exercise for weight management. Exercise is important for overall health, but the more you exercise, the hungrier you'll be.

Cut out carbs and count calories to lose weight. Exercise to get in shape.

Check and see if your pool has any kind of discounts; our public pool has a prepaid punch card that ends up costing a less per visit than usual.

Also this:

I'm against cutting carbs entirely (don't cut nutrients, just moderate and don't stuff yourself full of the big stuff) but keeping track of calories is a good idea in general. At least assuming you do not have an eating disorder.

But exercising more is probably a great plan anyway because exercise makes you feel pretty great once you're into the routine. :D

This legit was my sister's exercise routine for a bit. She'd try to get me to join her, but it turns out I'm so ill-coordinated a person that I can't play it without falling down at some point.
If processed foods are a part of your diet, dump them in favor of more au naturale and you'll see fairly instant results.

Otherwise, bro do you even lift? Maximize those glutes!

Counting is meh
I'm cutting on carbs (and snacks) and if I manage to push myself to do some excersising, pool shouldn't be a problem 2-3 times a week.
My diet is not that terrible otherwise. I gained some 10 pounds two months ago when visiting my gran.

Problem with the term "processed" is that, much like the term "natural," it doesn't really mean much of anything. Just about everything could be labeled "processed."

Checking ingredients and the nutrition label can be very helpful: a lot of foods (at least in the US) add way more sugar than is ever necessary, even in places you'd never expect. Also check out serving sizes.

I've noticed that cooking my own food has lead to good results, though that presupposes the equipment and ability to do so.

Another thing to try is reducing portion size. It can be hard the first day or so, but the stomach will shrink surprisingly quickly if you keep it up. If nothing else, you'll be able to eat much less and have leftovers for a good while.
Yeah, the whole "natural" thing is horseshit. You can get pretty fat eating a bunch of fruit. The caloric difference between a banana and a 12-ounce coke is less than 50. Sugar is sugar.
Except that one single banana has more nutrients than an entire Coca-Cola brewing center.
Processed foods have comparatively little nutritional value compared to something made from the ground up because they're full of cheap substitutes. Sodium, corn cyrup, chemicals we can't pronounce, etc. This much is pretty common knowledge by now. The calorific value of a McDonalds hamburger is higher than a lean ground beef burger with your own sliced tomato and onion, but your body will be getting so much less from it.
If you adjust your diet with a more-nutrients-for-less-intake mindset, you'll find that you'll simply crave less food in general, cutting your calorific intake by itself. This is easily accomplished by writing off processed foods :\

In order for a chicken to be called Free-Range, it needs a certain amount of minutes on it's feet in the sunlight throughout it's entire life. Minutes. Not even hours.
So I understand what you're saying.
But if somebody doesn't know the difference between fast food, a package of Hungry Man, Mr. Noodles, and a stir fry chopped up from ingredients picked up at the grocery store, then there's no helping them.

Well, yeah, duh. I'm assuming that nobody here is that fukken stupid, though.
I'm not going to argue with you that you shouldn't take in nutrients--you obviously should--but I'm going to be a dickhead and point out that sodium is a nutrient and it's necessary for hydration (though, yeah, we tend to get more than enough). Also, I'm going to continue to be a dickhead and suggest that creating a "processed foods vs. natural foods" dichotomy is reductive; you're excluding several processed foods that provide ample nutrition and natural foods that have little to no nutrition, and, really, you should just follow Sooz's advice and read labels.

Yeah, Sooz's advice is good. I need to hear this stuff sometimes.
I started yesterday and i find the mindset being most important, when it comes to food.
Eating is good.
No eating is also good.
Now is time to proceed with sports.

Ad ddr: I had a friend who tried that too. It proved to be partially successful. I think that making pushups all the time was more important.

I've seen a doctor sum up good dieting advice as "Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants."

Swimming. People that like running are masochists.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.
