Wow, getting started, so much to do. Where do I start?

*looks around for pointers*

To be sure, I am more interested in learning how to do it myself. At least right now I am more like trying to get my bearings. I have amassed a large collection of links and offhand tutorials; I am working every day on the development of my story, characters, and have an idea of the mechanics I want to implement. It's all, however, in my head, and I am trying to do it on my own, and it is turning into a heavy burden. Sometimes I tire.

So yeah. Where do I start? What do I do to lay the groundwork, the foundation? Organization?

Can someone point me toward a relevant newbie thread or a particularly good tutorial to get my feet wet, and then I am off and running. I intend to contribute regularly, and look forward to getting to know people along the way!
