The Final Fantasy XIII topic
Maybe someone can help me who has played both games.
If I absolutely hated the video game "Lost Odyssey" and thought it was a perfect example of everything that is awful about JRPGs with none of the good stuff - do you think I will like FFXIII? Hopefully, I do not need to specify why I hate Lost Odyssey so much since that is too consuming an endeavor for me.

open Volume Control and check the SW Synth slider. If you don't see the slider, check the File > properties of Volume Control.
And F4 toggles full screen
You and AznChipmunk were absolutely right. You have solved both problems. Thanks.

A possible reason you don't have sound is that your computer's SW synth is turned down.
I'm not sure what that is, but I do have sound effects play during the game. And the music files play just fine outside the game. The music just won't play during the game for some reason.

Yes, Kentona, I remember your name from gamingw.net. I was probably using this name. But I'd rather have a clean slate here. My XNA game has admittedly ran into a jam. I was paying a programmer to make the game for me, a few thousand dollars over the last year. But he quit and now I'm looking for someone able to take over (1000 files of uncommented code).
This sad story let my mind wander and has evidently taken me back to this rpgmaker community. Still have all the character art (3D models used as 2D sprites) and may try importing them to some kind of RPGmaker version. In the meantime I am sort of fleshing out the characters, story, and universe of this game. It cheers me up.

Taking a page from FFVI's book.
Yes, my RPG in development does this but to a much greater extent. You are constantly switching among characters with intertwining storylines, picking up new characters, rejoining old characters, fighting your own characters from a different character's point of view. Only during climactic battles at the end of chapters do all party members manage to get together and fight a common enemy.
But this isn't treated as a gimmick, but simply what makes the most sense. When you think about it only in the video game RPG medium do the characters in the story stick together.
Take another medium, like the TV show Lost. How often is the main cast all together? Almost never. They are constantly moving about, meeting new characters, rejoining, fighting other characters, etc. Pretty much what happens in my game.
The reason RPG characters stick together is probably out of an illogical sense of tradition. That's how the old games always were so that's how the new games are. Throw away those shackles. It doesn't really make any sense and there is so much dramatic potential with splitting characters up.

Introduction and Questions
Hi everyone. I am an XNA developer who has been working on an RPG for the last year. I am not a programmer but I have been handling everything else with a small team. This game is something I've wanted to make my entire life but only now have set about a solid plan in doing so. Years ago, I tried using RPGMaker2K3 and later XP(when it first came out) but found it too limited. They are amazing programs but sometimes it's easier to start from scratch than force RPGMaker to do certain things it wasn't especially designed to do.
Now, the more I think about it. I kind of want to get into the RPGMaker community. It may be wise to make sort of a prototype version of my game here to test out some functions. Or maybe I'll create something new.
I have some questions though. As I'm getting back into RPGMaker I googled to find out if any new groundbreaking games had been made. I was surprised to see some games are selling commercially and the game that kept coming up is Aveyond for $20. I played Aveyond for almost the full free trial hour and I have to say that it was not good. Sorry if the creator is lurking around here, but I thought it was very uninspired. I also tried Deadly Sin which was slightly better, but still not worth even playing for free.
So my question is if anyone here has tried to sell there XP or VX RPGmaker games. A lot of the games I tried here were a lot better than these commercially successful games.
I'm having a few problems just playing some games. Sometimes RM2K3 games or RM2K games I have downloaded here will not play music files. They will play sound but not music. They have music files. Also, I cannot figure out how to get out of full screen mode while playing which makes the game very blurry.
I am glad that there is a Misaos award section here. With so many games out there it's hard to tell which games are worth your time and which are not. It's unfair to judge a game just by looking at a few screenshots but that's often what is done I think.
But I'm interested in some personal feedback on what you think are the most groundbreaking RPGMaker games. I would like to try them.
