Introduction and Questions

Hi everyone. I am an XNA developer who has been working on an RPG for the last year. I am not a programmer but I have been handling everything else with a small team. This game is something I've wanted to make my entire life but only now have set about a solid plan in doing so. Years ago, I tried using RPGMaker2K3 and later XP(when it first came out) but found it too limited. They are amazing programs but sometimes it's easier to start from scratch than force RPGMaker to do certain things it wasn't especially designed to do.

Now, the more I think about it. I kind of want to get into the RPGMaker community. It may be wise to make sort of a prototype version of my game here to test out some functions. Or maybe I'll create something new.

I have some questions though. As I'm getting back into RPGMaker I googled to find out if any new groundbreaking games had been made. I was surprised to see some games are selling commercially and the game that kept coming up is Aveyond for $20. I played Aveyond for almost the full free trial hour and I have to say that it was not good. Sorry if the creator is lurking around here, but I thought it was very uninspired. I also tried Deadly Sin which was slightly better, but still not worth even playing for free.

So my question is if anyone here has tried to sell there XP or VX RPGmaker games. A lot of the games I tried here were a lot better than these commercially successful games.

I'm having a few problems just playing some games. Sometimes RM2K3 games or RM2K games I have downloaded here will not play music files. They will play sound but not music. They have music files. Also, I cannot figure out how to get out of full screen mode while playing which makes the game very blurry.

I am glad that there is a Misaos award section here. With so many games out there it's hard to tell which games are worth your time and which are not. It's unfair to judge a game just by looking at a few screenshots but that's often what is done I think.

But I'm interested in some personal feedback on what you think are the most groundbreaking RPGMaker games. I would like to try them.
