[RM2K3] Blitz Mechanic? Channel Time on Magic?

Thank you so much! I'll check this out as soon as I get some time. I was about ready to consign the Monk to a chaining set of Combos that worked like a Limit Break.

Off topic Rouge since you seem to be really knowledgeable about this stuff, do you know of any way to set it up so that you can create a Dual Cast system, I have a Red Mage character as well; and I'd really like to give her the ability to chain two spells together, rather than the default RPGMaker 2003 style which causes you to just repeat the same spell twice.

[RM2K3] Where can I buy a non-Steam version of RPGMaker 2003?

The Steam ownership is useful, because it transfers from computer to computer. I'm not sure how accurate that "all of your titles will become unusable" is. I have Windows XP right now, and I can play all of the games that I downloaded through Steam on it. But I assume that this is only certain games that don't have code that specifically integrates into Steam. That's probably what Steam is warning you about.

That is literally however what they are inferring on their warning page.

Windows 7 and Windows 8 Support

As of January 1 2024, Steam will officially stop supporting the Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 operating systems. After that date, the Steam Client will no longer run on those versions of Windows. In order to continue running Steam and any games or other products purchased through Steam, users will need to update to a more recent version of Windows.

While you might be right about some games running on despite a depreciated Steam Client, essentially Steam is taking hostage people's libraries which frankly speaking I am not alright with or eager to support. Far better served to buy a copy that I can physically install.

[RM2K3] Where can I buy a non-Steam version of RPGMaker 2003?

As usual two of my favorite posters have the answers for me.

So I need to buy the one from Komodo Plaza then, which I'll do ASAP.

One other question though probably only Cherry can answer it. I used a couple of their (Cherry's) patches on the game. Can those patches also be applied to the rpgmakerweb version? IE: Can I just port my Project Folder into the RPGMaker and it should run the same?

Anyways thank you to both of you again.

[RM2K3] Where can I buy a non-Steam version of RPGMaker 2003?

Because of the amount of time I have invested in my game, and my background in law I have a bit of an issue with the concept that Steam is essentially 'renting' me the use of RPGMaker 2003.

I would prefer to have a physical copy of my own that I can use independently of Steam, should a day come I decide to stop using their services. Does anyone know if such a site exists? I had heard Kadokawa was offering it for sale, but I cannot seem to find the website as of today.

Don't get me wrong, I do appreciate the fact that it is on Steam; but I am also very much a firm believer in having one's possessions firmly in their hands. This is partially due to Steam ending service on Windows 8.1 and stating that I must upgrade from Windows 8.1 or lose all access to my titles in 180 or so days. That I don't appreciate in the slightest, since I do not currently possess the means to upgrade due to the high cost of living in my area and so it very much feels like Steam is taking my investments hostage.

Creating a Step Counter

PianoTM, I wanted to take a moment and thank you for the really in-depth and easy to understand explanation on how to achieve this step-counter. Thanks to you I've been able to recreate a scenario I was honestly not sure if RPGMaker 2003 could handle.

The desert (and it's annoying as hell water dependency) are now up and functional now thanks to your code / response. I was even able to add a graphic to the game to show players exactly how much water they actually have because of what your steps taught me about how Variables and Conditional Branches work.

Thank you again!

Creating a Step Counter

This deals with RPGMaker 2003.

I tried using Digital Koifish's tutorial, but for some reason it did not work. Basically what I need this time, is a simple way to see how many steps the player has taken so that after a certain number, an event fires. Essentially, I'm creating an area of the game that is very reminiscent to Breath of Fire 3's infamous desert of death, where you have to conserve your supplies to make it through.

So for a resource such as say.. Water, I'd like it to deplete every 20 or so steps, but not deplete if the player stands still. The problem is, everything I've tried doesn't seem to correctly count the steps when I do a X Coordinate = to Stored X coord, with a branch of +1 when it does not.

If anyone knows a way to create a simple step counter that I can turn on and off as needed (don't want the player informed they need water if they are in the ocean after all. xD), I would really appreciate it. Preference for the simplest and least obtrusive means to achieve this. as I have all sorts of other variable saves in this particular area, and I'd like to keep things as de-cluttered as I possibly can.

Thank you in advance folks. Have a great one!

[RM2K3] Blitz Mechanic? Channel Time on Magic?

Sorry on the slow responses. Had a bit of family tragedy crop up which has made the last few months challenging to say the least. I've been tinkering with the code in my spare time, but I ran into a new problem. There does not appear to be any way outside of items to "invoke" a skill, so any spell I programmed would probably have to be specially tailored for each mob so as to give the illusion of an elemental weakness.

Going to try an experiment with Action Times+ to see if I can program the spells in that manner. On a happier and unrelated note I figured out how to make a basic "Gil Toss" ability.

What I wound up doing as a stopgag solution for my issue on Magic / All Casting was I gave the White Mage and Black Mage a "Spread" option, which basically causes them to take a round to retarget. Works like this.

Black Mage Abilities:

Fight
Target All
Magic
Item
Defend
Escape

Target All: Allows the BM to use all targeting versions of his spells and since they are different spells entirely, they can be tuned to deal less damage. The Black Mage also gets a new ability called "Focus" which does the reverse allowing them to swap back to single target spell casting.

As for Summons, since I'm still having some trouble with the cast times, I wound up looking at the older source material from Final Fantasy. Wound up reviving the concept of the Evoker (FF3j), and turned Summon into a Proc that happens when the character uses Evoke, Fight, Defend etc.

Character can Summon and use a single target ability that evokes the Esper in Question. After using that ability a few times, or getting lucky on a proc they can use an all-targetting Summon. Not thrilled with this system as proc based abilities can be dicey, but I also want to be a realist and get something in the battle code so I can return to making the game rather than tinkering with the same character for weeks or months.

Anyone who has suggestions, tips, or ideas (heck a screenshot with a 'how I did X') would be amazing, as I can sometimes be as dense as a piece of granite. Either way thank you very much everyone for all of your help!

Just a small general inquiry about RPGMaker 2003

This computer is really starting to irritate me. Somehow it double posted. Delete this. Thanks.

Just a small general inquiry about RPGMaker 2003

I'm a poor fellow, so I haven't got the cash atm to check myself; but Microsoft insists on reminding me that service is ending for Windows 8.1. Question is really simple. Does the Steam RPGMaker2003 work on Windows 11 and 10?

Thanks in advance guys.
