Super RMN World 2: Yoshi's Archipelago

I don't exactly know if I'm skilled enough to do PSA's but I think I should point one thing out anyway--

Frogge PSA

-Levels shouldn't require you to spin jump, carry objects and/or walk on spikes to beat. These can work for bonuses, but remember that some players may not know about these features. Personally when I started playing Mario I had no idea you could grab anything, let alone spin jump. I think it's better to avoid making these mandatory and just use them for bonuses if possible. If this is a stupid thought, please tell me >.<

I'm pretty sure anyone who's going to play a Mario fangame probably knows about basic Mario features like that.. I think there's a fine line between making stuff that's too mechanics abuse-y for a Mario-like game and just having boring generic Mario levels with no interesting tricks to show off people's creativity and that's probably going too far in my opinion.

Not that all true Mario-like levels are boring, but I think spicing your level up a bit is okay, no?

Super RMN World 2: Yoshi's Archipelago

I've been playing some random levels, here is some feedback.

Future Shock:
I love it, what a cool level. Originally I just had a bunch of emojis here but they made my whole post vanish after I submitted it so here you go.

Tempest Valley:
It was okay but I'm not really entirely sure what was happening. I don't like it when things appear out of thin air from p-switches.

Ghost Coast:
I liked it, it was a neat little level. The checkpoint felt really pointless though, there's nothing dangerous from the checkpoint until the end and it's really close by too.

Boom Boom Bastille:
The thwomp section is really boring, waiting for single thwomps to drop down and walking past isn't challenging it's just dull... but maybe that's just me I like going fast. Also the double boom boom fight is slightly annoying because they move around pretty much randomly because of the moving platforms.

Fungal Forest:
I thought it was a nice level mostly, but there's way too many lotuses and parakoopas and no safe route to really run through them? It felt like I had to wait a really long time but maybe I just didn't play it enough to figure out a way to go fast.

Sherbert Summit:
Ugh it's soooo sloooooow. Ice physics and a glacially slow autoscroller, that's no good. I didn't get a single mushroom on the autoscroller parts because they all slipped away from the tiny rocket platforms and then I died right before the end to a piranha plant. It's really slow and frustrating overall.

Blazing Inferno:
It was okay but I don't get the point of that shortcut right at the start. It looks ugly and out of place and you also miss out on most of the level... is that supposed to be there?? The level looks cool sometimes but there's a lot of badly clashing graphics and towards the end especially there's a lot of straight geometry, like just straight or diagonal chunks of terrain which I don't like very much. The level is pretty neat in general though!

I think "standard Mario hard" would be best here. I don't think we should count on the player mastering obtuse mechanics at this point.

Okay! That sounds about right. I mostly like the mechanics abuse types of Mario levels so making an actual video game level is a little weird for me hah. I'll just finish the level and hopefully someone will play it and if it doesn't fit the game style I'll just change it or trash it.

Super RMN World 2: Yoshi's Archipelago

How hard are world 8 levels supposed to be? Like just general Mario hard with strategically placed enemies and some platforming or can they be really hard, like requiring precise trick jumps, like shell jumps or whatever else?

(I think) I have some neat ideas for this level but I'm not sure how challenging it's supposed to be.

Technically I'm not a lurker just yet... I read this forum about twice and registered. Just give it a few days! :)

Holy shit Manic's Zone, that name brings back memories. If I remember right, I think the color of the site was navy blue or something. Good times they were.

Something like that, yeah. It was my first forum ever! I can't remember much, thankfully, but I'm pretty sure I started posting in all lowercase letters sometime because it was cool.

Welcome to RMN! Post lots!

I'm more of the lurky type actually :x

Yo.

ey, I'm Claire, I messed with RPG maker 2000 way back when Manic's Zone was still alive, though I'm guessing no one here actually remembers it. Thanks to a friend bugging me I've kinda decided to check out RM again, but I've no idea what project I'm going to try. Probably a sidescrolling shooter (Metal Slug-ish) I've had in my head for a while about a paper bunny saving his bunnygirl from evil alien carrots, or a dungeon crawler. Don't really know yet.

I love music, pretty much a bit of everything but mostly rock/metal and various types of electronica (I know right??). I also make a lot of chiptunes but they usually suck. At the time of writing this, I had White Stripes - Blue Orchid on.

Aaaand yeah, that's pretty much it!

Whats the worst thing you ever saw in high school?

A bunch of kids harassed an elderly teacher in the class next to mine so bad, she nearly had a heart attack. I remember walking out and seeing her passed out on the floor outside the classroom.

The worst was probably seeing one of the school staff falling from a roof and dying right in front of me and a bunch of friends. It wasn't really messy, he just dropped and died. Apart from the shock thing, it was really sad... he was about to retire and everyone loved him, he was probably the kindest person in the school. Even worse than that was later hearing some of the kids cheering because school closed for the rest of the day..
