Not exactly dead, but he lost a lot of content in hdd failure (the only backups recovered were resources and not the game). I think he want make it best visually with atmospheric story and locations plus new patches and plugins, scripts not previously possible at the time when this project started. Already told him there's no reason to delay project in development hell until is 100% finished and complete so proper game will be probably released in smaller parts, chapters or episodes.
