Something well designed.
OOOOOOHHHHH SICK BURN
j/k I love Zelda, but I wish they'd make more items like the Boomerang- that have a puzzle/exploration usage AND a combat application. It'd also be nice if they stopped the recent trend of getting an item which is only useful in the dungeon you find it in.

That's the funny thing though. I was thinking about all the items they've used in the series and by now, they really run the gamut as far as "adventuring gear" goes for that kind of gameplay. Unless they diverge into things like "stat-boosting equipment" its tough to think up a new and original item without treading into the similar functionality of another item.
Or maybe its just hard for me. Since I am stuck in the 2D era.
One thing I never understood was why the Magic Cape and the Cane of Byrna were both effectively the same thing, except the latter also hurt enemies for you and used up less magic. I wish they had used the cape for something clever.
EDIT: The Sand Rod was pretty cool too. Like the Cane of Somaria 'cept it makes bridges.

I seriously wish the Roc Feather would return... But then again it was kind of broken in Link's Awakening.
The magic cape also makes it so you don't react to spike blocks! With the cane you'll still flinch and bounce back!
It's important in rom hacks ok

An item that downloads a better game.
So, what? Chrono Trigger?
Personally I'd like to see more things used in puzzles too - like in Lufia~
Hell, a puzzle reset would be neat (instead of having to leave the area and come back) coupled with the ability to fuck up. There's no real way to lose a Zelda puzzle as long as you have the right item for it.
(Lufia puzzles are the best)

I hope you understand that site policy basically prohibits me from linking Secretofevermore.smc .
I think an item that steals life and/or magic would be interesting.
A remote control Bombchu that you can manually control and view in first person mode would be kind of cool, climbing all over the walls and then you can detonate it at any time against an unexpecting enemy. Or how about seeing a return of the Magnetic Gloves from the Oracle Of Seasons? I always liked that item.
Yeah, but they’re f**king hard!
Although I do like the idea of a having a puzzle reset item. :P
