Uh, dude, if youre complaining about garlic and mashed potatoes, I think you may have a bigger problem to solve, like how you feel about garlic in general.
Well if it's 50/50 and raw garlic then maybe not.

Ok, need the details of the recipe and how such a lovely comfort food was ruined for you.

Raw garlic can cause stomach upset. Additionally, raw garlic will have all of its allicin compounds intact, which will create a very spicy sensation in the mouth. Roast or cook the garlic for a few minutes first.

if you don't like garlic, I'll gladly take your cosmic share

it's a very good all-purpose spice for savoury things, and a method of being rude to vampires

Instead of using the convenient garlic salt in my cupboard, I diced up some raw garlic cloves and tossed them into the potatoes impromptu, crushing them up with a fork. For the sole reason that I had garlic and needed to put it in something or I'll never learn how to cook with it.

The garlic overpowered the potatoes, and I should have added milk to make them a bit softer. Should have roasted the garlic in the pan first like everybody's saying. Fail.

Portions also matter in regards to garlic. Typically, a single serving should really only need one clove in order for the garlic not to dominate the flavor.
you live and you learn! I made exactly the same mistake with garlic after I first moved out.

Here's an idea I can actually get behind.

Yeah, well at least that explains it. You can actually put it in raw, but you need to mince it very finely first so that it cooks with the residual heat in the potatoes. Personally I'd go with oven roasted myself, it adds a smoky flavour.
