JAMESSERX10'S PROFILE

Greetings! I'm Jamesserx10, a game designer using RPG Maker VX. I've been using the RPG Maker programs since RPG Maker 2003, but have never posted any of the games online, until now with the project I'm currently working on. I'm just a typical designer looking to become better, my goal however, is to take elements of Western RPGs and JRPGs to make a match made in heaven of the two. Hopefully I can achieve that one day.

Are these maps good enough?

Ok, so as some of you know I've been trying to improve my mapping skills over the past week. And now that I've gotten tips from some of the more known/skilled members of the site, I've tried to make some maps in a way that might be better than the ones my previous game was denied upon. So now I've come to ask the question, would these maps be good enough? First I apologize, if the only way to find out if the maps are good enough would be to submit a gameprofile, if it is, just move this to the city dump and notify me. Second, at this point, I still think the answer would be "no" to these maps, I'm more interested in seeing if I've improved at all, and what I still need some work on. Thank you in advance for any feedback you guys can give me, and I apologize as well if this somehow breaks a screenshot rule, or some other forum regulation.

First, the world map (Sorry Max I had to make a big map just to see what I could do). I felt this one actually didn't turn out all that bad for a giant map. I made sure to make the environment, varying, interesting, and above all, visually pleasing to the player.

Second, my indoor map. I think this one wasn't all that great, if only because I suck at indoor maps, I find them to limiting. But I attempted to NOT make it just a square shape like my previous indoor buildings. I felt that the downstairs of a home such as this would include a small library, a dining room, and of course, the kitchen. (The stairs lead to the bedrooms upstairs, I didn't link that map).

Finally, my outdoor map. While some of you guys were helping me with that other small map in the other forum, I wanted to make something with a bit more to it than just that. This is supposed to be a dining area, that grows its own food (hence the farming). I had some cut down trees, because well, a town needs wood! Especially a dining hall since they need it to start fires. The building that appears to have a stone path heading down its center is actually the entrance of a house (since I'm going with a no door approach I gave up the door and a bit more sense for the pathway into the house)

Again, thank you for your input in advance, and again apologies if this somehow breaks a forum rule.

Facemaker?

Alright, so in addition to the whole mapping thing, I'm also toying with the idea of using Facemaker in conjunction with Famitsu Sprite Maker, however whenever I import the faces I make, due to some sort of transparency glitch or something, even though I make the background color transparent, even when I preview I still get a distinct colored line around the hair and face of my characters. So I opted to just put them in with the light blue background, is that ok? Or is that a no-no.

Mapping Techniques (Yes I read the other forum from start to finish)

Ok, recently my game was denied (No problem, I pretty much saw it coming the instant I starting looking at other games on the site) however, my most surprising factor was the reason, it wasn't the battle design like I figured, however it was the mapping (which I kinda suppose it was coming now that I look back on it). I read the other forum on this page further down, about map design. However that I don't think is truly the root of my problem. I believe the root of my problem is my TECHNIQUE, I know what makes a good map, I know what makes an environment interesting, my biggest problem is the ability to bring what I see in my head to life. Now I'm not sure if it's just that the basic RTP with RPG Maker VX is to limiting, or if it is my own skill. I watched the RPG Maker VX tutorials, looked up and down Game Design & Theory forums, checked the Help & Support forums, nothing seems to be able to help me out in this situation. I desperately want to be able to make a quality game, however I need some assistance here.

Any advice/techniques/any other resource, of help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

A simple designer with a simple dream

Hello folks!
I'm Jamesserx10, one of the forums (as of this post) newest members! I've been working with the RPG Maker series for a fair amount of time now, since the RPG Maker 2003 days, however I never posted any games online until now. I'm currently working on the first game I feel will be good enough to go online. My favorite games include, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I, Final Fantasy VII, and Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. My hopes in my games is to take qualities from Western RPGs and JRPGs and meld them into a hybrid that features both the elegance of JRPGs such as the Final Fantasy series, and the character development styles of Western RPGs such as Bioware's games.

So yah! Hey everybody, I hope I get to talk to more of you eventually.
