i'm getting far too fat. i mean my weight has stalled but then this week i got some skin stuff and i feel i got a little fatter again so i was like FUCK COKE SHORTENING MY LIFESPAN AND GETTING ME ILL WHY WOULD I DRINK COKE
then i started drinking water and u-ughhhh its kinda hard to guzzle down a cup of tasteless but refreshing water when your mouth is tasting like rice and beans. (its like drinking rice and beans tea. not good.)
So today I decided I could make my homemade soda with seltzer water!
bought some 100% integral grape juice, some lemon, I had some honey from decades ago (rofl) etc.
Today what I tested (and worked out super well) was 1/3rd grape juice, a spoonful of honey and seltzer water. Pretty delicious! Gonna try out mroe recipes soon like tea soda, lemon soda, ginger soda and stuffs. I like how the bubbles clean your palate for another bite. And more importantly, drinking more clear water through the day!

I substituted water for every other drink (besides beer and milk) and I've never looked back.
Pretty sure I lost like 10-20 lbs just from quitting soda, too, once the dirt got out of my system.
Your substitution is still worlds better than drinking anything coming out of the fucking chemical factory of a major soda company, though.

I don't drink soda unless it's with whiskey. And I drink a fair amount of whiskey

so what you're saying is, instead of having a rye n' coke, I should just drink rye?
Drink your liquor on the rocks or straight. It's the only way.
(Unless you buy mix drinks at a bar, because let me tell you, that's a guilty pleasure of mine)
i love drinking but only when i go to a karaoke bar
then i drink my ass off
and sing
SING
SING
which reminds me last week i went to a bar and sang like 10 utada hikaru songs
like this:
i'm surprised i didn't cry onstage

I have a bad soda addiction. I've kicked it a couple times only to find myself back on the stuff when I have reoccurring bouts of insomnia >.<;;
Luckily I usually don't drink more than a can a day, but that still might be too much -_-

Flavored fizzy water is your best friend.
I drink a heck of a lot of diet fizzy drinks, but it's mostly because I freakin love the fizz.
As for nonfizzy alternatives, water's good, juice is good if it's all juice and not packed with more sugar, milk is good. :D

Yeaaaa, same here! I've switched to drinking Coke Zero when I can, but... Dr. Pepper is really good ;__;
But yea, when I started cutting out as much pop (and beer) as possible, that's when I started dropping all my chubby adult weight :P
I still drink way too much coffee, though.

Nah I don't because I tend not to drink sweet stuff too often, only very occasionally. Let's just say I'm quite health-conscious :)
I used to drink a ton of pop, like a can or two every day (alright, ~relatively~ a ton of pop. A friend of mine drank so much he could chug an entire can in seconds). I just got tired of blowing money and my health on it and my mouth would feel gross a while after each can. I don't mind the flavor of water though and I can't stand the flavored variants so it was pretty easy to make the switch. Plus when I want a drink with some taste I just have tea.
I actually used to drink a fair bit of rum too but after kicking pop my old rum & mixes became too sweet for me so I quit drinking those too. Rum was one of the few alcoholic drinks I liked too so now it's pretty rare when I actually drink. I should learn how to mix my own Long Island Ice Teas, those are good and not too sweet for me.

I drink a couple cans of coke every day. If I don't have a coke (or sometimes tea) with lunch and dinner, I get a caffeine headache, and I'm too much of a wuss to go cold turkey, plus I like the taste too much.
You know what, Jo, you're awesome! It's something important to tackle. And yes, water, always add water when possible.
I recommend water, milk and non-sugared teas (like green tea) as the best alternatives. You really don't need anything else for daily use. Takes a lil to get used to, but it's just the best there is. Diet stuff isn't a particularily healthy alternative.
Many types of juice have up to about the same amount of sugar in them as soda so .. If you want fruit eat the goddamn fruit (fiber + sugar is a far better combination healthwise, too)
So .. if you need something tasty, grab yourself all kinds of tea leaves/bags. Drink as is, since you'd likely do a lot I'd recommend doing them weak (especially green / black tea for their caffein).
The stuff you do sounds a lot better already, tho, gotta second that.
And yes .. it's an addiction, sadly. As a kid I was hooked on sweets and soda, although at home I thankfully only ever had water, so I liked the taste.
Chewgum actually helped me the most to skip it all, since I had something with taste for a longer period of time. I then got rid of that, too. (but as I said, I was used to drinking clear water)
Caffein addiction is ridiculously common as well, but it's nowhere near as unhealthy as the sugary kind.

Midwesterner detected!
But anyway, I probably drink too much soda for my own good too. I usually limit it to one per day, typically around the time I have dinner, otherwise it's nothing but water and juices for me.
Also I despise coke. Pepsi all the way!
Nah, southern Albertan here. My parents are from South Dakota and south Manitoba though so it's close enough that it probably seeped in that way.
LockeZ
I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Gentlemenne maye I intreste thyselves in a softe drinke?
I'm sure I would lose 30 pounds instantly if I quit, but I don't actually care how I look and I'm not in any health danger, so the only incentive is monetary.
author=Ratty524That's not too much, that's novice level. I'm guzzling about 4 cans of Pepsi a day, it's the only thing I ever drink unless I'm dunking oreos in milk.

I quit regular soda drinking quite a few years ago. Yeah, I had a headache for a day, but the sugar was giving me diarrhea and stomach aches, so I just really had to cut it. I'm fine with drinking regular water, but flavored seltzer waters have been a good substitute - in fact, I actually like it better now. Soda generally tastes too sweet to me now. The artificially-sweetened zero-calorie stuff is actually even more unbearably sweet-tasting to me, ironically.
I also had to cut fast food due to it making me puke, and most fried foods, potato chips, or stuff with a shit-ton of butter or cheese (esp. cheese sauce) because they give me a headache. My body just seems to hate anything that would get me to outgrow my middle school clothes...
I still have any of these things from time to time, like when eating out. I'm not really afraid of any of it actively killing me, though sometimes I end up paying the price for my indulgence.

You damn Yankees have a weird way of pronouncing "coke." :V
