Survival in RPGs: Hunger, ammo, sleep and porn withdrawal.
While I appreciate how NetHack and Rogue handle it, my favorite was Dark Cloud. Sure, you would still be punished if you were thirsty, but it wasn't exactly difficult to find food or drink, either.
Then again, a game which rewards you for eating, like mentioned previously, and in games like CT or Mana Khemia (sort of example: You could craft food, amongst many other items, and eat it to recover health or bonuses) is great, too.
It depends on how you want to balance your game and the crowd you're after, I think.
Just don't hide hams in walls. Castlevania, I'm looking at you.

Hi!
Thanks for the welcome! Though I've not done as much gaming recently as I should've, I've recently found an old DOS shareware disc I've had since I was a kid and have been playing with it in DOSBox recently. I still love Captain Comic (I did when I was a kid!)
I'm still toying with VX. Neh, its not as good as RM2k3 in my opinion, but its good. Too bad there's no way to get 2k3 legally XD

An RPG specific sprite making program, or a tutorial?
Curious if anyone knows of an RPGM specific sprite editor, or a tutorial on making them specifically for VX. I'm setting up a game I'm toying with with the default four sets included with lite at the moment, but would like to make some basic ones myself. =)
(I have some spriting experience, mostly personal projects in the past, I'm just curious if there are any guides for VX based ones, though.)

Hi!
I'm new here... sort of. I think I joined earlier this year, but promptly forgot all my login info. I am that ditzy. So, saying hello a second time-- long time female gamer of 22 years, the NES was my first console, though I've always known DOS and Windows. :)
I've also had an off again/on again interest in making games. I still have RPGM for the PSX somewhere, and have used demo versions of both RM2K and RM2K3 in the past, and sort of new to VX. I grabbed VX Ace Light, and toying with it, trying to figure out neat tricks and not hit the limitations.
I'm actually a fan of Nintendo and SEGA equally, and part of the reason I came here is because of Brickroad's LP of SMBX! :P
So, hi y'all. :)
(P.S. Officially, I'm 25 XD)
