What is the default version of Paralysis? Back in my day we just cast NumbOff and went on our merry way.
Wish we could cast NumbOff, but people forget to give items or spells to heal the condition and even if they do, the healer/free person gets locked as well.
Which leads to being paralysed for 3-5 turns with no abatement while enemies wail on you ... to death. Most games fuck it up in that they use the default skills which attack the whole party with only small chances of missing, and leaving it at the same 'weight' in battle, meaning that one battle of easy-average monsters can game over you easily.
Have 4 characters, breath attack that paralyses you, enemy keeps spamming the same attack so you don't get to break free of it enough to heal. Death.
Easiest way to fix it is to nerf the status itself. Because I am so sick of being dead after a supposedly easy battle. Yes, I'm looking at certain competition games.

Paralysis is just a bad concept all around. You remove from the player the ability to play the game. How is that remotely fun? It only exists to annoy you.
Oh, Death doesn't rape you for x turns where you can't do anything to finish it even if you have the items to do so.
Death doesn't make you watch in growing frustration as your party is decimated by paralysis-spewing bunnies of doom who can't figure out how to use a tooth-brush.
Death doesn't laugh in your face when you finally get someone free and have them just about to use a healing item just to have them fall to the dreaded paralysis once more, to slowly watch them die as you scream and tear your hair out one.fucking.strand.at.a.time.
Death, I can deal with. It's friendly. It kills you, another person grabs a phoenix down and shoves it down the dead persons throat. They're alive. Bam! Two turns! More if they keep dying, but at least your other character can do something instead of just stand around like a ninny and watch each other get slowly nibbled to death by fuzzy bunnies with halitosis.

To be fair I totally agree with removing Death
Or alternatively, make Death the end of a several-character combo that's really hard to pull off successfully, so that when you do and the enemy (or player) dies, it's totally awesome and/or scary and/or completely your fault

Sleep, Stun (SaGa-style), and Petrify.
Tolerated cousins? Or off to the glue factory?
Fuck you overworld random enemy : Always casting Death 10 on the party, instant-killing on the first turn.

Yeah, multi-party death is cheap and nasty. I don't mind it so much if it's one-hit with a low chance of working - it certainly adds some fear to the battle - but at least it's easily remedied as long as you give enough items/money. Party-wiping death is just cruel though.
Sleep isn't so bad since you can wake up once hit.
Confusion is a bitch, but again, being hit pops you out of it.
Petrify, as long as it takes more than one turn, is good. You have a chance to change the status.
Petrify that hits all and doesn't wear off (or add defensive buffs when 'stoned') is paralysis' pot-smoking hippy cousin and should be condemned to the depths of hell too.
Stun, as long as it's only one turn and doesn't get cast every turn, is fine... if you have more than two characters in your group.
Poison is always an annoyance but it's like a nerfed Death Sentence, where it's a faster beat-the-clock death that can be healed or it's effects 'rewound' (by healing).
Death Sentence is annoying but can spice up a battle as long as it's not a party-wide attack. It's another 'beat the clock', except this time with no way to heal besides ending the battle.
Mute isn't too bad, since you can heal via item or skill. It does limit your skill usage, but as long as you have some attackers it won't kill you off. It can lead to scary situations, but it won't rape you.
But Paralysis is the queen bitch of them all. At least with the other status's (besides Death, sleep and stun) you can run from battle. My main gripe is that people use it in conjunction with bad skills that deal it to all and are used all the time by the monsters with high-infliction rates.

I've pretty much just stopped using stuns and silences. The dungeon crawler I'm working on has Poison (halves healing, not a degen), Daze (take more crits and lowers evasion), Tired (skills cost 250% more), and Seal Fire/Water/Storm/Earth (makes you deal less <element> damage and take more <element> damage). There are Attack/Magic/Defense/Speed debuffs as well, but those are nothing like paralysis, haha.
I don't mind degens/regens, but I removed them from my project because I wanted to focus on elemental play and building up your psuedo-limit breaks; a strong poison is a fun skill, but is too passive for what I'm aiming for. That's also why stuns and silences aren't around -- they're passive, and just make the battle less interesting. An ailment like Seal X or Daze lets you pre-empt an enemy in a specific manner (the ninja dodges too much, or the pyromancer has strong fire spells), not just "stahp plz."

Paralysis that's just freezing your foe has always bugged me, because that should be the duty of other statuses like STOP. I prefer the Earthbound way: Where you're locked out of physical attacks and items, but you can still cast spells. That or the Dragon Quest way where you only have a percent chance of not moving each turn, rather than just being locked out. But that may be even more annoying for some.
You can't deny it's fun to paralyze enemies though. Maybe we should be petitioning for developers to stop STOPing the party so much. Think of some other statuses like radioactive fallout or something.
