You already stated you're maybe not going to use final bosses so this is a bit pointless, but I made this Necron-esque frankensprite a while back.

What needs to be in a Final Fantasy fangame?
Many of the games in the series revolve around a certain theme, like VII that dealt with environmentalism and IX and X with death and sacrifice. The theme is often represented by some high concept idea the story is built aroung, e.g. the Lifestream, Sin and the Genomes. I do believe a FF game needs to have a strong theme that drives the story.
