I have this annoying habit of thinking myself into a depressive corner.

Gotta learn to think your way back out of it.

As a start, you are probably making a lot of assumptions about yourself, life, etc. that just are not true, and are solely your brain being a dick.

When i'm thinking too much about shit I like to clean the house or do yardwork, stuff like that.

Always help me!
Yeah, distracting yourself when you feel a depressing thought coming on can help a lot. Overthinking things is not fun!
Normally I do do a lot of things to distract myself. But my brain always catches me unawares, like if I'm walking home from my folks, or lying in bed at 3am.
Myself, I usually let it fade out and then redo the scene, or a similar scene, with a better (and more realistic) outcome.
I'm getting better at it, and usually add some positive affirmations while I'm at it. Ignoring it only made it snap back when I had some free time again. Catching yourself and telling you that this thought is wrong to break the chain does help, though.

This is the important part: catching the thoughts and reprogramming them. There's a lot of different methods out there (I tend to treat it like a courtroom and demand proof of everything and/or reasons why it should apply to me and not someone else in the same position) but the important aspect is accepting that you have a douchey brain and fighting back against its doucheiness.
Well, the therapy is there to help battle these thoughts, thing is I've had them for a long time, so it'll be a while before any noticeable progress is made.
Yeah, that's just how it goes, and that's okay, too.
Even so, there's many ways to do it, so it's good to see what helps you most. Inside and outside of these thoughts popping up.
If you keep at it, you'll do it quicker and better over time, and that's more than enough. Catch them, do it better and more positive. In words, scenes, whatever works best for you. I mean, if you stop yourself earlier before you reached your emotional cellar, you're already making progress.

Good luck~ and many hugs to you!
