Bought Bravely Default for something to do during the night after work, only to be completely put off by it right away. 40$ just... Flush.

I may be able to salvage it next turnaround by trading it for something else along with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and kill two birds with one stone. At least I had the foresight to bring more than one type of game this time around.

send it my way
That could be arranged.

Well uh, how far did you get in it? if you don't mind me asking
I only just started (inb4 OH WOW YOU GOTTA PLAY LIKE FIVE HOURS) and got that all too familiar feeling of RPGs that "return to the classics" in the sense of being really cliche to an offputting level almost immediately.
I don't know, the whole experience had an immediate, overbearing sense of "do not want".
Eh, I was considering on getting Bravely Default myself, but after hearing about the grinding and battle system complexity my interest sort of died down. I guess it's not for everyone, because I can't really stand RPGs like that anymore.
Not pressuring you to play more or anything, but... I usually hate grinding and I'll admit, BD has plenty of it. However, it makes grinding so easy that I almost feel enjoy it somehow. Just turn encounters up as high as possible and set everyone to Brave 3 times and use normal attacks or weaknesses and boom, everyone's shot up a couple levels in 5-10 minutes. Plus it gives you bonuses to EXP and JP for getting through the battle in one turn or not taking any damage, which makes it go a LOT faster. So uh, yeah.

That sounds encouraging, actually.
To be more specific, I'm not against grinding itself, but when there is too much of it, the game kind of gets repetitive and boring for me. There are some exceptions with me, though, like with the Mario RPGs, whose core gameplay mechanics are so fun that I don't mind going into every battle. When that battle includes nothing but "X Draws near!...Attack...You Win!...*walk around the field and repeat*," however, that's when I start to lose interest.

That sounds pretty cool indeed! Too bad I find the whole "kiddies save the world" thing to be a bit overdone for my taste. That, and I don't own a 3DS =(
I played the hell out of Bravely Default! Game is way fun. Chapters 5 and 6 kind of suck ass, though. Otherwise a brilliant RPG, really awesome battle system. The game is all about mechanics more than anything. The twist is really cool though.
