So, yeah, basically I haven't had the chance to try out a ton of SNES rpgs yet, and was wondering if anyone knew some good ones? Other than Breath of Fire/Chrono Trigger/Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy~ :)

(Same for Playstation One rpgs, but I'm going with those after the SNES ones.)
EVO Search for Eden, Secret of Mana
Hexatona
JESEUS MIMLLION SPOLERS
3702
Earthbound, Paladin's Quest, Secret of Evermore.
Hexatona
JESEUS MIMLLION SPOLERS
3702
Arcana, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia 1 and 2, RoboTrek, Soul Blazer, Super Mario RPG

and my personal favourite: action rpg: The twisted Tales of Spike McFang.

As for the plasystation - that's gonna be a long list!
Hexatona
JESEUS MIMLLION SPOLERS
3702
Alundra, Azure Dreams, Grandia, Jade Cocoon (ps1 pokemon), Kartia, Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Mana, Lunar: Silver Star Story, Lunar 2: eternal blue, Parasite Eve, Saga Frontier 1 and 2, Star Ocean 2: the Second Story, vagrant Story, Valkyrie Profile, Wild Arms 1 and 2.

And the best, Xenogears.
Wow, lemme right a few of these down.. 'kay

Ones to play for the first time: Alundra, Azure Dreams, Jade Cocoon, Kartia, Legend of Legaia, Legend of Mana, Lunar/2, Saga Frontier/2, Front Mission, Terranigma, Treasure Hunter G, Treasure of the Rudra, Wanderers from Ys III, Valkyrie Profile, Wild Arms/2, Arcana, Illusion of Gaia, Lufia/2, RoboTrek, Soul Blazer, Super Mario RPG, Paladin's Quest, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Beyond the Beyond, Secret of the Stars, and EVO Search for Eden.

Ones to replay: Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Star Ocean 2, Xenogears, Breath of Fire/2/3/4, Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest/2/3/4/5/6/7, Final Fantasy/2/3/4/5/6/7/8/9/Tactics, Suikoden/2, Threads of Fate, and Grandia

Ones I don't think I'll try: Earthbound(While I've heard good things about this game, it doesn't really seem like something I'd be into.), and Twisted Tales of Spike McFang(Again, not sure it'd be something quite for me.)

Welp, thanks guys, quite the time I'll be spending on these, but keep the titles coming! :D

I'll throw in a few more titles, if I may.

SNES:
Terranigma, Wanderers From Ys III

PS1:
Grandia, Suikoden, Suikoden II

*Edit: If possible, Secret of Mana 3, Treasure Hunter G, and Treasure of the Rudra for the SNES.
Beyond the Beyond and Secret of the Stars (PSX and SNES, respectively). They're both sort of terrible-yet-awesome games.

And I'd recommend you at least try Earthbound, up until the end of the first major dungeon at least - it took awhile to grow on me, but I was pretty sold by that point. The concepts of the game kinda... stick to you by that point.
Well, for the titles in the ones I wouldn't be trying, what it really means is that I'll be putting them aside until the very end. Want to get the ones I'm more into out of the way first, then going through ones like Earthbound~ :)
have some general ff pro tips

- Skip FF2. It is a genuine bad game. It's mired in bad design decisions that interfere with enjoying the game. If you do want to play it don't play the original NES version, leveling weapon/spell levels takes the same amount per level and takes forever, the PS1 and on versions change it so lower levels are quicker to get but the cost increases per rank.

- Skip FF3. It is also a bad game but it has the benefit of being completely obsoleted by FF5. Play that instead. Again if necessary, but with the Four Job Fiesta restriction.

- SNES FF4 suffers from version hell. The SNES release is fine but they did remove several things like attack items and some character commands and the script isn't that good (but it did start one of the iconic lines of the game). The PS1 version restores content removed from the original but the load times are shit. The GBA version has a good script but the GBA-izing ruined the music but thankfully there's a patch to fix that. If you do go GBA use the EU rom, the NA rom has an annoying bug in the ATB.

- The ultimate version of FF5 is the GBA version. The SNES version has an abysmal script dredged up from the age of early SNES translations and the font is horrendous. GBA FF5 is the best version, play that.
Since I did a run through of FF2 on the psp sort of recently, I think I'll take that one off the list. Definitely FF3 is out, after seeing what's in store in FF5. FF4..idk, I might run through on the GBA with that patch fix, but probably not right now, and yeah FF5 I'm definitely getting a run through. (GBA version, lol~) Thanks for informing me on that GRS, can safely cross a few out. ^o^
If you have a PSP then the PSP FF4 might be worth a shot. I'd assume it uses the same script as the GBA version and no sound quality issues without needing any patches. It's hi-res if you want (I personally like the SNES graphics but part of that is I find the FF hi-res character graphics same-y).

It also has Interlude and The After Years but The Interlude is a horrible trap designed to eat three hours of your life and TAY is mostly pretty awful. It does improve on the combat some but unless you really like FF4 it isn't worth the time investment. You already have a ton of good games to play without needing to play some fanfic-made-game.

Since I just realized I never mentioned it, FF1 is pretty safe across versions. The NES does show its age but that is part of the charm / nostalgia but I think it also aged better than FF2/3. The PS1 version is a mostly straigth upgrade with better graphics and interface but (iirc) enemies give more EXP and gold which can let you break the game with just grinding. GBA replaces the FF1 magic system with the MP system used in FF4 on and it has optional dungeons and bosses. PSP... I dunno!
I'll second Paladin's Quest and Secret of the Stars
author=ankylo
I'll second Paladin's Quest and Secret of the Stars
Yeah, quickly checked out those two; screenies and such, and they both definitely seem like something I'd like~ :3
I'll second Suikoden and Suikoden II, Breath of Fire II, Terranigma, Star Ocean (if you can find the patches), Secret of the Stars and Legend of Mana.

Also if you're going to play a FF4, use the PSP one. It's by far the best when it comes to balance, sound and script, and I do believe it has that one iconic line still in it. It's also pretty. XD

Legend of Legaia, while the story and characters aren't great, does have a pretty awesome battle system as well as characters changing their appearance depending on their armour/weapons. Which was freakin' cool at the time.

A few others to check out are Alundra, Star Ocean Second Story and Threads of Fate.
Hmm..sadly, my laptop isn't up to speed to run PSP roms/emulators. So, as much as I want FFIV for the PSP, it won't be anytime soon because of my "very" low cash flow, haha. I'll stick to the GBA version on that one~

Also, quick question, is the original SNES version of Star Ocean the same as First Departure on the PSP? Been checking out several screenies, and the two look almost nothing alike, aside from the artwork.
Ahh, I assumed that you had a PSP instead of emulation.

Star Ocean First Departure is a port / upgrade from the SNES Star Ocean 1. I can't say much further though, hopefully somebody else knows more about version differences.
Well, I do have a PSP, just not FFIV for it, and my cash is severely..well, lol, anyway I do know one version of FFIV I'll never go through again and that would be the DS one. Graphics were..well better than FFIII at least, but the difficulty was downright abysmal once you went inside the Giant Golem. Could not for the life of me get past Rubicante no matter what I did, and what made it worse is that you also have to fight the other three elementals before him in a row..ugh, gave up after like 10 tries or so. (And, I was pretty damn high leveled too.. :P)

Lmao, ANYWAY, I don't think I'll do a run through of Star Ocean on the SNES since I have the one on the PSP, and have done a run through of it about twice, though thanks for all the great suggestions guys, I think I have more than enough to keep me busy..for like, a month or two? xD
Star Ocean 2, Wild ARMs 2, Threads of Fate, for the PS1, for the SNES I'd suggest 7th Saga for a challenge, and Illusions of Gaia.
Now there's just the question of which game to start with..haha, and having so many to choose from, oh my~ xD
