I'll make this as short as I can.

First of all, THANK YOU for reviewing this hunk of junk.
This is the first game I am making on RPG Maker VX Ace and I started it without knowing much of the basics.

I know there are A LOT of mistakes, like the random swords, that I didn't even try to fix. I was trying to put time into this during school and didn't have much time to play test.

Now that I'm on summer break for another week, I've been dedicating a lot of time to a remade version from scratch and actually testing it as well as adding new features, dialogues, music, and more.


Second, I laughed in shame at all my mistakes while reading this.

The reason for getting all the backstory in the entrance video and almost no progression in the game is because I wanted the player to be "as confused" as the characters. and I did not do it right...
And I also planned from the start on making a prequel during the war. wouldn't really be necessary with the backstory though..

The exp and enemies were always a disaster since the beginning... I'm working hard on getting them right without having to grind so much.

The 2,000 free gold was added because there were a few guys that were telling me the prices on everything was too damn high. Though I purposely made them high because of the unmentioned depression after the war.

Since I started "planning" this, I wanted Ben to wield dual swords, but I didn't know scripting to do it, so you got a free sword to sell. The remake will actually let him wield 2 swords or just a shield and sword.

Not going to the optional castle in the remake will make Shiki scold the characters a bit for being cowards.

Thanks for the advice on making the pickaxe a key item instead. That would be much less annoying than equipping it.

For the latest release, I reordered weapons, armors, and items thinking it wouldn't affect the shops and inventories. Boy was that a huge mistake...

There are more things I want to comment on, but time has been rather limited for me lately.

Well, it's Sunday. And I said I would have map designs, dialogue, item
placements, stores, inns, and the plot of my RPG done by Friday.
All of that is somewhere between 40-80% done.
I didn't get lazy.. I've just been very busy. Like how I was out for all of yesterday.
I'll work on it some more in a bit and post another update tonight.

I'm at about halfway through alpha 1's remake.
At this rate, I should be done with the map designs, dialogue, item
placements, stores, inns, and plot by (hopefully) Friday.
Some maps have been/will be re-designed.
Afterwards, all I have to do is set up the random/boss enemies. I'm saving that for last because of a custom enemy image that I have to wait on.
The enemy encounter screen will now show the characters, as well as the enemy's HP and MP.
Also, a mini-map will be available in certain dungeons.

honestly from the perspective of a person that spend alot of there life up to this point gaming and watching anime
the storys very generic and meh
what would of been nice is to play the reverse role
taking over towns,being a completely evil scum bag and killing some hero at the end
hope some people make more anti hero games : (
will be a nice break from the painfully cliche types
still ill try this tho i dont know when ill actually get around to it
so many games to go thru lol...and not always motivated to play them :3

Let's just say the enemy's army wasn't so powerful.
Generic? Yeah. I wasn't exactly going for anything "WOW"!
I like that anti-hero idea. Although this game wasn't planned for that, there will actually be a small bit of it at the very end.
I'm currently working on re-making everything and adding scripts to it, so you don't have to worry about playing it until I get the new version up. There are a few more typos and mistakes (mentioned below) that need fixing.

Lets see....in Enlith Castle when you beat that bugger, theres a sparkly next him but you cant do anything with it. I hope it isnt something amazing like the burning crotch of Doom.
Also in Castle Cambridge I have talked to everyone but whenever May says that bit about her feeling a breeze, I can never get anywhere else about it.I am stuck.
What is the point of having that little house where when you enter it automatically walks you over to some beds and asks do you want to sleep? Then you are heaqled and it automatically takes you outside? Nice to heal but it is weird.
I had over a thousand HP at level 8 i think but suddenly although I have all my skills etc appropriate for my level suddenly my HP is just around 400. I thought it was a temp glitch and upon my next level up it would reset but it didnt.
Not sure how it happened but when I go into Arkala and go to the weapons guy there are two offernings which cost nothing but gives you some nice swords.
Sparkly next to the bugger? Well I most likely overlooked that. Or I thought of putting something there and ended up forgetting and kept it as a place marker.
Oh geeze, "Burning Crotch of Doom" XD I needed that laugh.
In Cambridge, you'll want to talk to the soldiers in the dining area after examining the book case. Examining the book case will give the soldiers something to say.
Yeah.., I wanted to do something with that house but ended up leaving it like that.. I'll most likely change that for the next version.
HP went from 1000+ to 400??? Dafuq!? Thanks for bringing that to my attention!
Oh darn, I changed the items and weapons tab around and forgot to remove those...

Hmmm ok I finished the demo but it said I had finished 1.3....wasnt this 1.4? What am I missing?

Good/Possible-Bad News...?

Oh! I forgot to mention for the "Re-Created" version, old save files WILL NOT BE COMPATIBLE!
I apologize for making them incompatible, but there's quiet a lot of things that will be updated/changed. For example, text with character images WILL give errors and crash the game, so don't try it.

Here's a list of scripts I will be implementing, and a short description of what they will bring to the table:

  • "Viewed Battle System" by Jet

All participating actors will be shown in battles. This means there are a few emeny sprites that will have to be changed/re-sized.
  • "Dual Wield -> Free Hands" by Fomar0153

This script will give Benjamin only the ability to either dual wield swords, or single wield while holding a shield.
  • "Basic Enemy HP Bars" by V.M.

Enemies in battle will have an HP and MP bar. These bars will be shown throughout the entire battles and they will not go away.
  • "Ace Menu Engine" by Yanfly

This scripts allows a custom re-design of the in-game menu, although I only used it to disable formation due to cutscene problems if Ben is not in the front.
  • "KMS Minimap" by Tomy

Self explanatory. Minimaps will be shown on the top-right of the screen. Only certain dungeons will have the maps enabled.
  • " Save Screen" by Levi Stepp

Just a little change in the appearance of the save/load screen. Instead of showing the actor's sprites, it will show their "neutral expression" face.

There are plenty more scripts I wanted to add in, but I decided to leave those out and save them for a future project instead.

@Roy, please don't stop complaining about how hard it is to kill those monsters.

I enjoy a game with a little "grinding" but I do get frustrated if it's to hard.
Get him to lower the monsters attack so I can play the game :)

Which version are you playing? The enemy difficulty is lowered in 1.4, but if the enemies are still a problem, I can tone them down some more.

I finished the demo by going thru the tunnel under the castle cambridge and now waiting for the next part of the game. I am sorry being too critical and realise the difficulty in creating a new game specially when you have so many other things going on in your life. Good luck but please don't give up. Hopefully I will be able to use my saved file in the next installment of the game.


Thanks for understanding. Working on 1.4 an 2.1 this past week has been way slower than usual so the next update might not be until until Wednesday or Thursday.
