We all remember when our parents finally told us that Mario wasn't real, yeah? I remember it for me, at least. I had fought with the kids at my school all day that day. They said their parents had told them mario wasn't real. Your parents are stupid, I said.
When my mom picked me up from school I was laughing about how my silly classmates thought Mario wasn't real. Before she started driving she turned back to me and said, "Mario isn't real, Gourdy. Your father and I slip the gifts under the tree - not mario. You are too old to believe in something as silly as Mario." And she drove me home.
I was heartbroken. My entire worldview had been built on a lie. Of course, a change in worldview can be liberating but a chance to transition is key. My worldview had been smashed against the concrete. Delicately was not the word for my parents' reveal.
