It helps to start small, or at least shelve your bigger idea until you have more experience under your belt so you don't destroy it. ;.; (I have done that before. It's hard to come back and change everything about a project to make it better. Usually people end up with a messy project and leave it to rot. Better to just wait until your skills are up to par.)
I think dreaming big is an absolute necessity, as long as you also put work into plotting your way there from wherever you are. having some huge personal goal pulling you along definitely has its advantages.
