SLASHANDZ'S PROFILE

I'm Josh, a 19 year old college student. I've been messing around with RPG Maker for years. I tend to prefer the classic "fantasy, anime, swords-and-wizards" RPG's. I also usually lean towards lighthearted comedies over serious tragedies. But there are some exceptions: Lun Calsari's "The Way" is actually one of my favorites.

It sounds like a pretty simple and straight-forward story, which is fine for a short, light-hearted project.
As with anything, what becomes of this depends on how it is handled. What the characters are guided by the plot to have to do is less important than why the characters are actually doing it. What motivates the characters to set out on this quest? How do they feel about each other? What are their personal goals and ambitions?
I have not played the game so I cannot say to what degree any of this is explored in your demo, but nothing about the heroes is mentioned in the synopsis, just a list of things for them to do. This suggests that they are just a group of characters to guide through the games events, but they should be people, grow like people, and feel like people. Make sure to spend some time developing the party, which is likely to be a big part of what will make the game enjoyable.
There are a number of useful articles on the subject of character writing in the site's Writing section. If you need some tips for that, I would suggest checking them out!
The review for this game also had some complaints about the game's mapping. If you wish to improve your mapping skills, the best way to do that is to check screenshots of other peoples' projects.
I am kind of rambling at this point but the short of it is I see no problems with the story, its just the supporting elements of the game should also be able to stand under scrutiny! RPGs aren't just about battles or just about story, they must have a number of things working in balance in order to create the best experience possible.
It might sound a little intimidating, but every minute you put into working on any part of it will make you that much better when you work on it in the future!
Wow, this is some of the best advice I've ever received on this website.
I really appreciate it, and I'll definitely make sure to keep everything in mind!
Does an RPG have to be long and dramatic?
Thanks everyone, your posts have definitely been encouraging.
I was on the verge of dropping the whole project.

Version 1.1: still pending...
Eheh... this is a bit embarassing.
I submitted my update as a separate game rather than an edit to the original demo...
It's up now. My bad.

Yeah, anything that requires to use Submissions requires longer to be accepted. I've had a couple things take over a day, so it shouldn't be a surprise. Although if you are just replacing an older demo, I don't know. I suspect that would be immediate.
Yeah, it's just a demo update. But I guess I'll keep on waiting.
What do you do when someone blatantly STEALS your stuff?!?!?!?!?!?!
Affection Level
I love systems like these. It really helps the player pick which character they want the protagonist to spend their time with.
A few questions:
1) Is the player going to be informed of this system? Can they view how close they are to each girl, similar to Fire Emblem listing ABC supports?
2) Suppose I really like one girl, but another girl is kinda cool too. If I kick a point towards the other girl, will that bar me completely out of a level 5 relationship with the girl I like?

How to deal with under-leveled players?
Wow, I wasn't expecting so much feedback! Thanks everyone!
Makes sense. The current plan is to make a villager say "If you're leaving, stay clear of the north until you've become a bit stronger!" or something along those lines.
I'm not sure I follow. You're saying to have strong standard enemies, but what are you referring to about predictability?
That's true about indie gamers, you have to really cater towards them. I'll consider the enemy level idea, but if there's a simpler solution, that would be preferred.
It's nice to get feedback from someone who actually played the demo! I really appreciate it. :)
I'm hesitant to let the player save on the world map, lest they end up saving in the middle of nowhere with low HP. That would practically force them to start over from the beginning.
You make a good point about the druids, they are pretty hard for new players, so I may weaken them a bit. However, don't be fooled by the seemingly small level ups. I've tweaked the battle formulas, so even a single stat point can make a big difference! Not to mention you level up pretttty easily in this game.
Still, I'll definitely keep all of this in mind. Thanks again.
Hahaha simple, but effective!
comment=27328...post some kind of warning message about higher leveled monsters to the norththis

very strong standard enemies -> predictability -> eventual win -> simple powerleveling

People are morons, they figure a warning means proceed. What about don't try this at home?
Make enemy levels. That's what I did! Its painstaking, but worth it! Apparently grinding is bad, and death is bad. I'd hate to upset the gamers that play indie games, because once you've lost them... they're gone.

Yeah, the Druid are tough by themselves, but once they can their unrevealed spell on them or them summons, it makes it really hard to kill them at the standard levels. Even when you attack using a spell of the opposite element, it will be barely do any damage. If you decide just to put a warning, I think you could at least allow players to save in the world map and keep the levels as is. I do feel, though, that leveling up so far does little in terms of helping the stats of the party members.

Some games are so blunt as to have a signpost that says "LEVEL 10 AND UP HEROES ONLY!"
Hahaha simple, but effective!
