SNOTWURST'S PROFILE

Greeenhorn game developer looking to release his weirdo imaginings.

I love comics, cartoons, and bad cinema. I do a little bit of art here and there and have a modest background in programming.

My first game ever will be "Hokey Smokes!" for RMVX ACE. I've always wanted to make my own game and decided I might as well give it a shot.

[RMVX ACE] Tileset frustration (And bonus question!)

Well, I hardly think my game will be that loved. I will try my hand at your suggestions, either finding resources already available OR hand-drawing the items. Um, there a tutorial for approaching that?

Thanks! I'll have to add more ghouls to the ghoul bus.

Definitely got to play your games and I'll be pouring through the resources you provided. Thank you so much for the help! I'll have to contribute to open-game art too!

Update: Oh, apparently I need to learn all I can about parallax.

[RMVX ACE] Tileset frustration (And bonus question!)

I would have to acquire specific permission from any parties involved in the project.

Thanks for the information. I've been using open-sourced software and free clip art resources for as long as I can remember. I would like to give something back.

Hey, thanks for pointing me out to the resource area. How on earth did I miss that? I hope I can find something there I can use. Thanks!

[RMVX ACE] Tileset frustration (And bonus question!)

Lately all the work on my game has come to a halt because of tilesets. Performing pixel art is a pain...I just hate the living hell out of it. Even something really simplistic...it hurts. I want to start building my maps now and resolve this issue later. Is that a good idea? I was just going to use the current tiles I have with rpgmaker and then edit the sheets later, replacing whats in the system file with the revised image. Perhaps, I should have drawn out the maps first on paper, but I find that using the editor is easier for me.

I see that there is a want ads section for artists. I wasn't planing on publishing this game for any commerical purpose, so how hard is it to find someone willing to make a tiles for free? By the way, I didn't want anything too fancy. Something approaching this would be fine, so long as the colors were maybe a little brighter (this is from Caveman's Life) and the two main characters are rendered cute.

Btw, my game is about two monster girls who are trying to find their way to a party. They have travel through their monster town and fight annoying, lesser monsters. Panhandler monsters, junkie monsters, solicitor monsters, the usual.

Oh yeah, here is a free piece of art. It's a Ghoul Bus:

One last question...At the end of this, I sure think it would be swell to release all the art assets as "public domain". Probably not the right term. Non-commercial Creative Commons license maybe? What is the right type of label for this? I want to allow modification and redistribution but without commercial application.

[RMVX ACE] Total newbie here. Please to meet you.

That's okay. I can only imagine considering how quickly this community must be growing. I'm reading through the forums so that I can avoid posting the same kinds of questions you kind folk must answer over and over again.

Thanks for the welcome!

[RMVX ACE] Total newbie here. Please to meet you.

Hello everyone. This is my first time ever developing a game and I hope that in the future I'll create one players will find fun and entertaining.

For the moment, I'm trying to learn from playing around with RMVX ACE and from various YouTube tutorials. I've been able to construct rudimentary maps with a simple introductory screen, change and loop BGM, and create some dialog and battle events. There is so much to learn. I'm thankful there is a community to help us newbs along the way.

I don't know much, but I'll try to pass on what I know to return the favor whenever I can.

Personal Stuff: I like drawing monsters and cartoonish characters. Pixel art is certainly my weakest area. Feels tedious and restricting, but I guess it's time to expand on my skills. I like bugs, slime, cartoon violence, monsters, comics, horror movies, creepy stuff, and video games of course.
