This is the funniest article I've ever read: http://internet.gawker.com/tony-the-tiger-turns-his-back-on-twitters-horny-furries-1755249263

LOL
The company (General Mills, I think?) probably doesn't want to associate a brand targetted towards kids with that sub-culture.

Oh yeah, I know that.
It's funny, yet at the same time, crazier shit has happened in the past.

Sorry, that's not nearly as funny as furries getting mad that a cereal mascot blocked them on twitter because some of theme were PROPOSITIONING IT.

My first thought is "Why does Tony the Tiger even have a Twitter account?"
My second however, is that this is basically the same brand of dumb, troll level posting that pretty well every other subculture gets into on Twitter, so I don't fully see why it's necessary to write several articles making fun of and shaming furries over it. (Not that I'm saying I approve of propositioning Twitter accounts for sex, but... I am skeeved out whenever people take chances to fire off pot shots at furries)
also why in the fuck did I bother reading the comments, good lord

These furries in particular were sort of asking for it, yeah, but go fuck yourself if you think the fandom at large is bringing all the dumb, pointless hate on themselves.

This aggressive self-martyrdom is why furries are so often a ripe target.
When your raison d'etre is sexualizing cartoon mascots, you really need to expect other people to think you're risible.

Not the gamefaqs meltdown when Undertale beat Ocarina of Time in the best game poll, 2/10
PROPOSITIONING TONY THE TIGER ON TWITTER
I mean yeah I saw the "WE STAND AGAINST ARMIES OF PEOPLE WHO LIKE THE WRONG GAME THIS IS WAR!!!!!" stuff, but this is like twelve times funnier!
Which is some no effort no dedication and no reaction garbage that shouldn't be a blip on the internet. That video of those sovereign nutcases that took over some wildlife refuge building being mailed boxes of dicks and one of the guys getting mad over it is way better than this shit. The Silent Hill wiki meltdown where the head admin flips out and thinks everything in SH is about circumcision is pretty good too.
when people talk about so-and-so being a 'ripe target' or 'bringing stuff onto themselves' it's. honestly really unsettling tbh
it reminds me really strongly of the stuff I said to myself when I was a really angry + self-assured internet person desperate for an acceptable target (among which furries did figure prominently)
+ so it might not be a very good mindset to get into, just, speaking from that past experience without any intended moral judgements

This is honestly so crude and off base that I have no idea where to start with it... Although frankly, there's not a lot of point. I feel as though I've said what I needed to about shitty articles.
author=CrazeNah, just fun, balanced gameplay. (though I'm sure there's a dog in the game somewhere)
zelda doens't have dogs
Also, sooz, don't be a jerk about other sexualties. just because you don't see the appeal doesn't give you carte blanche to shit all over others' preferences. this is the kind of shit that starts threads about cheeckbones, ffs.

Aight just to 100% clarify what I'm tryina say here
There are hobbies that tend to attract a level of mockery because they, or their proponents, are extremely silly in public.
There are multiple ways to react to this mockery. One is, "Haha, yeah, we look like dorks, but it's fun so whatev." One is just ignoring it and having fun. One is to immediately get defensive and angry if even the slightest whiff of this happens.
Generally, when you start acting like an angry jerk if someone brings up the idea that your hobby looks super weird to outsiders, you're not going to come off as particularly sympathetic or likeable, which is the one thing that will make you more acceptable in most people's eyes.
ESPECIALLY if you come into some other person's space with your defensiveness, because then it just looks like an invasion.
ESPECIALLY when you start directly comparing your hobby to issues like racism and homophobia.
This is behaviour that I have seen repeatedly over the years when the subject of furries comes up: a big ol' avalanche of super-angry and defensive people over what are usually relatively minor slights. (In general, from what I've understood from friends inside the community, a lot of that comes from furries soaking in the various geek social fallacies, where there is a lot of us vs. them immaturity and a lack of self awareness. I don't know, my personal contact with the community is restricted to a couple of cons where I helped babysit the anime room.)
It is this belligerent behavior that I refer to when I argue that furries are bringing mockery onto themselves, because all they are doing is allowing people in their community to paint a huge target onto themselves over perceived slights.
FFS, they're getting up in arms that a corporate twitter account for a children's cereal is banning people because folks with the same style of avatar have been addressing sexually explicit messages to it. That is risible on every single level.
