It makes a certain amount of sense, in that this is a hobbyist site, and generally nobody is being paid. But yeah, if you want pro art, you gotta pay the pro.

As someone who's both been contracted and has contracted other artists before, everything is so much easier and smoother when you pay people what their due at an agreed-upon time, and not at ~indeterminate date in the far future~ I'm really glad I've had the chance to work with some great people this way :)
It's great if an artist wants to contribute to something free of charge, but that should always be considered a kindness, not the norm.

Yeah, this is one of those pet peeves of mine. Crafting art is a skill everyone wants but nobody wants to pay for, despite the time, investment and resources it takes for the artist to produce a composition.

It depends on your artist; uni's paid me in donuts before.
Mostly it's about being willing to compensate people for their time and work. If you're not a charity, you need to be willing to shell out.
