RM* Variables
I sometimes use variables when I don't want to use a lot of switches.
For example, a monsters appeared, then another, then another. Instead of using 3 switches, I use only 1 variable that will be getting +1 each time a monster appears.
But I agree with you, usually I only use them for systems and such.

How do you guys come up with witty quotes?
Also, don't rip-off any well-known quote.
I've lost the count of how many times I saw the following quote in a game:
"You thief!"
"I prefer the term 'treasure hunter'."

How do some of you complete games so fast?
If you have enough inspiration and just start making your game without initial planning, it's quite fast to finish a project.
Te more planning, the more it takes. But as you have aready said, sometimes you end up not being able to put in practice what you have envisioned for the game, and stop doing it.
And zomg kentona, wish I could have so much ideas for my game D: I prefer planning the game based on chapters. After I finished planning and writing one chapter, I make it in the maker. What really suck balls is the initial programming necessary to implementent all the systems in the game. Once you do that, the rest is easy, imo

Bad points of one big 'inside' map for towns
I think it's all a matter of personal preferences, really. I particularly hate when I enter a 3x3 house and get teleported to a 10x15 ambient, with two floors! lol
Yes, I'm looking at you, pokemon.

Long live RPG Maker!
Thank you very much ;D
Besides all that RM stuff, I'm currently 18 years old and a big fan of old games. True classics for the SNES and PS1, mostly.
My favorite RPG of all time is Final Fantasy 6 (which I played after 7 and was much more epic, imo). And Super Metroid will always have a special spot in my heart, because of my childhood ;_;
I'm not that much of a graphic whore myself, so I just search for games that... make me have fun. For that reason, Chrono Trigger, Super Smash Bros. and Super Mario World are some of my favorite games.
Also, Metal Gear > life
And I play some games online with kaillera (SFA3, MvC, Metal Slug, KoF 2002, Garou, Super Smash Bros, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs...).
After skiping both the PS1 and PS2 generations (I'm really ashamed of myself), I currently own only a PS3 and a gaming PC.
I guess this settle all the introductory stuff. :-X

Anticipated games the most of 2009
I'm not particularly hyped for anything in 2009... I'll probably buy RE5 (a friend of mine convinced me to, after we played the demo together a few time lol) but besides that, I just hope that GT5 and FFXIII come out soon ;-;
Long live RPG Maker!
Sup people. Here I am, introducting myself.
I start using RPG Maker in 2004, when RPG Maker 2003 was all we got. I had two projects in that period: Storm`s Saga, which was a lousy game that I made using only the RTP. It was more for me to test all the RM basic functions (switch, variable, fork conditions, ...) and get to know what the program was all about.
After learning the basics, I decided canceling SS and started a new project: an action RPG, with shooting systems and all that.
After the RM forums I was in died, I lost my interest in RM. But then in late 2005, me and some friends of other forums (there's even a person I talk to since 2001) thought about making a game based on ourselves. At first sight it's a common and silly idea, as I think lots of people do that. The project carried itself along the years, and after a lot of rehashes I finally decided, now in 2009, to continue and (with some luck) finish the game. Although it's based on a specific community, I do think it will be enjoyable to everyone, as it's not infected with internal jokes and memes... Only the characters are based on people I know/knew.
Anyway, I'm here to both relearn what I forgot and to try helping whoever needs it. Hope to get along with you guys 8D
Btw, English is not my main language, so just pretend I know how tospeak write accurately D:
