Melee is second only to Project M as the best Smash game out there.

Melee was my least favorite. The original is still the best.
Agreed.
The later run a little bit faster, but faster does not equal better.
Melee is terrible if you aren't good at it. As a hardcore fighting game, Brawl is dumbed down. It's still kinda fun but not as tight as Melee. The original is the worst one. You should see the high competitive scene for the original, as soon as you get hit once..you die from an endless combo.

It's true I've had more fun at it when I got back to it, but as a no-pro player, I can enjoy the system of the first one just better. Interesting point about competitive gaming, though.
And Brawl gets kinda dull, random items .. insta-kill with one life. yay. Aot all trophies, at least.

Melee was too fast paced for a game like this, had a lot of shitty level designs/ideas, and was pretty unbalanced. and fuck Wavedancing or whatever. Brawl had a few stupid things like tripping, looser/sluggish controls, and a bloated roster. Original had the best pace, a tight roster, and fun levels.
It is looking like Smash U is all ROSTER BLOAT X1000. I am disappointed. Roster bloat is the #1 affliction ruining fighting games right now.

If you're playing any Smash game with items on, you're doing it wrong xD
Obviously. But you will do anything for trophies. Anything.
The only reason to use Brawl is to play Project M off of it.
The best part about this is that it's not hard at all to be halfway decent at Melee, you know, on a local level. On a higher end competitive level it's obviously gonna take some work.
My biggest concern about Smash Bros. right now is how the new one is going to turn out. You know, whether they'll have it play like Melee or Brawl, or a little bit of both, or what.
As a note, my enjoyment of the original is hindered by the fact that none of the characters I main are available outside of Luigi. No Game & Watch, Peach, and obviously no Project M style Wario.
EDIT: The expanding roster wouldn't be as much of an issue if they learned how to design some fucking usuable characters. What the hell was up with ROB, Meta-Knight, Pitt, Ice Climbers, Olimar, and basing Wario on WarioWare?
Also the items are good, you just need to turn off like 90% of them and get rid of the godforsaken Smash Balls if you're playing Brawl.

Oh, c'mon. The smash ball is the most awesome and balanced item ever! : D
Especially when someone is playing Ness or Lucas
"THE SMASH BROS I STARTED PLAYING WITH FIRST IS OBVIOUSLY THE BEST ONE"
I mained Pikachu. He was awesome.
EDIT:
I think my main beef with Melee is that the Gamecube controllers are GODAWFUL and the shittiest controller design I've ever used. Hitting any button with my left thumb other than A was awkward and the C-stick blew chunks. Like, it is physically impossbile for me to have my thumb rest comfortably on the controller and hit the X button. my thumb doesnt move like that.

I never had a problem with the GC controller, but I have humongous hands, so reaching buttons is never a problem unless they're in a weird bottom-central location. I'm really happy they announced that peripheral to play Smash U with Gamecube controllers.
But with your thumbjoint resting on the A button your thumbtip has to cover about 220* arc to reach the B Y and X buttons. It is a terrible design.
Okay, so, I'm such and asshole that I actually made a video to prove you wrong...
But then halfway through the thing I realized that I agree completely. Damn. It must have been ages since I really played something at length on the old wavebird (besides Mario Kart DD, but you don't even use the B or Y buttons in that game). The inner joint of my thumb would probably fall off if I used it for more than and hour straight.
I now vote the NES controller as the best Nintendo controller, followed only by the extra comfy (for bigger hands) Wii U tablet.
Also wow holy shit I must be buzzed if I actually recorded myself doing that for a fucking discussion
EDIT: Also super-duper-extra SECRET information (which nobody cares enough about to notice) that I just blindly record as a backdrop

I guess I'm weird - I love all the Smash Bros games. I just hate tripping!
Jugglers Fighters.
author=kentonaWell, really, pretty much any controller has the same problem of not being able to use more than two face buttons at the same time simultaneously, or not being able to use all combinations of face buttons comfortably. Thankfully, Brawl has a button configuration -- something that is way too uncommon in Nintendo games!

author=kentonaI'd honestly vote "combo bloat" first, at least for the games with ridiculous combos like MvC3 or King of
Roster bloat is the #1 affliction ruining fighting games right now.
I dunno guys, I just don't have the same problems as you. Maybe it is your hands. The way I see it is that your thumb is resting on the center button and each other button is close by. You don't need to move your thumb to the far side of the button.
The thumb joint is on A so Y is the easiest button to press. Just press down the top of your thumb. Going from A to B or X is no problem. It's not dissimilar to moving from X to O on a PS controller. The hardest thing to do is move from B to X. Or C stick. With 20+ years of gaming experience my hands can only be fast moving between buttons. Plenty of newer controllers have you switching between second analog stick and main 4 buttons. Sega controller had 3 in a row buttons.
