Here’s a good one with an interesting sideview battle system that I like: Alter A.I.L.A Genesis.

Oh, and I can't forgot about Sacred Earth: Memory from Skie as well. Both of these games have some interesting mechanics for just using the 2k3 default battle system.

You should look into Paradise Blue too! That's one of my favorite RM games and it certainly fits the criteria.
