.........

I will confess the reason behind my above text. The highly infantile shitshow we call the 2016 election is really starting to destabilize my emotions.

I'm not just getting anxious, I'm feeling all kinds of negative emotions. To add insult to injury, everyone is saying bullshit like "Hilary Clinton is an evil communist dictator!" or "Donald Trump is a misogynistic anarchist!" in addition to the various other paranoid statements.

Personally, I don't give a shit about either of them now, and I don't want to think about politics at all.

I'm even starting to lose sleep over it. -_-

If you guys know a way to keep politics from getting shoved in one's face, you will have my gratitude.

Well there's only a couple weeks left right. It's like the World Cup, it'll be everywhere but it's be over soon enough.

Personally when people start unwanted political tirades near me I tend to just stop listening and think about other things and occasionally nod or smile. I believe this is a similar method women have perfected to listening to random mansplaining.

You're magical to me.

Yeah, just a little longer and it'll all be over. Try not to obsess about it and think of stuff that interests you, instead.

Is it strange that I don't do that? XP

I'm not really into politics, so there's that...

Also, I have more important things to do than worry about those stuff. So yeah, find something to do and engage yourself in!
I get off the internet and turn myself "off" from it, because it's okay to look away.

(insert herpes joke)

There's nothing special about the election, it's just that the current under-30 generation is very outragist and filled with a lot of hatred. US politics is an outlet for that hatred, and a fairly harmless one since the president has no real power and is guaranteed to spend 4 years doing nothing. That younger generation probably dominates the websites you visit.

I'm technically a millennial too but I'm a crotchety old man at heart. Back in my day we only had LiveJournal and IRC to be emo on! No one could even see what we wrote! But we bitched uphill in the snow about Bush and we liked it!

I'd argue that LockeZ is wrong about the effects of the election & how much younger people care (old & young people alike have had vehement opinions about politics for years, although obviously social media & the internet changes our exposure to it).

That said, once you have a pretty idea what your personal plans are for voting, I'd say you don't have to keep paying attention. There is incredibly little chance that anything major related to policies is going to change in the next few days, and the overwhelming negativity & anger that politics brings can be super tiring.

Good luck!

True, I guess it would be more accurate to say that the thing causing so much stress is the focus on other voters, not the focus on the election.

Yuuuup, it's good to be aware of what's going on, but like, you don't have to be hyperaware, especially when it's frequently nothing new and just stress-inducing.

I can explain that.

It comes down to two things; a lot of the people in the "under-30" generation have had perfect lives compared to those that came before them, and are quite bored with the lack of conflict.

That, and their parents didn't really bother teaching them anything remotely related to gratitude. They're not grateful for anything, and don't find happiness in what they were given prior to the addiction to negativity. Therefore, hatred is an effective means of compensation.

The second thing; hatred releases chemicals that the body can get addicted to, and stimulates these people. If these pricks were stoners or plagued with an alcohol addiction, they wouldn't be nearly as hateful and that would take hatred's place as the stimulant.

Soda and/or coffee can also act as the source of their stimulation, depending on how strong it has to be.

I can fix this post.

It comes down to two things; a lot of people in the "over-30" generation have had perfect lives compared to those that came after them; they were able to complete tertiary education without it costing them a small fortune, they were able to easily find work and were able to buy their homes. Reminder, a lot of the "under-30" generation would have graduated or took their first steps onto the job market during the Great Recession, the worst financial downturn since the 1930s, caused by widespread failure in financial regulation by the generations before. But yeah, those ungrateful kids with their sodas!

The rest is nonsense, I was wrong, I can't fix this post.
