Can anyone recommend a good open source or free video editor? Thanks in advance!
Camtasia studio is pretty good for screen capture, but my advice is to AVOID using it to edit the footage. I've had to re-edit Camtasia projects before and it was a nightmare.
Just export the capture and use something else. Adobe Premiere is extremely good but expensive, if you're looking for something free I'd recommend Lightworks.

Back after a long time, offering animation/cut-scenes
Hey,
Way back some time around 1999-2000 (half a lifetime ago!) I joined RPGmaker.net and started using the forums regularly (and later Gaming World). I never actually finished making a game and I don't think I ever will! I spent all my time making maps and not enough time building a decent story or learning about variables and switches...
Anyway in the years since I stopped making games I've developed a career as a video and motion graphics producer. I have a lot of experience with the Adobe Creative Suite and I particularly love using After Effects.
The reason I'm back here is I want to offer my services making short animations and cut scenes for you guys. I'm not especially looking to make money out of this, I just want to add more animation content to my showreel. The problem with where I work is that a lot of the assets I produce have a non-disclosure agreement attached and can't be shared publicly. So providing there isn't too many hours of work involved I would be willing to take on some projects for free, because it would be helping me as much as you!
So if you are looking for some help send me a message and I'll see what I can do.
Cheers
