Japanese gamemaker mogeko (Wadanohara, Gray Garden, Mogeko Castle) was chased off tumblr because of hate and death threats.

Happens a lot, unfortunately. It's a sad thing that mogeko, of all people, was the victim (if that's the case).

From what people have been saying, mogeko drew a non-con pic of Wadanohara and Sal because someone requested it. The picture was put under a readme, had nsfw tags, etc etc, and mogeko later took it down and apologized very politely.
Yet the first reactions people had were to anonymously send hateful messages and demean mogeko for writing a "shitty apology"-- which, really, mogeko is Japanese, not a native English speaker. What did they expect?
Apparently they're also sending hate messages to fan blogs of mogeko's works.
Overall, I'm just so disappointed.
There's a lot of fan support on tumblr too, but uh, mogeko already deleted all of their tumblr blogs so they probably won't see it. Ay. I've sent an email to mogeko with support, but really we can only hope that mogeko doesn't start thinking the English-speaking community is full of dicks.

Another entry to record in my "People are the Worst for SRS" log. I seem to be noticing this sort of lack of respect more often since that incident with Dudesoft on Imgur. Unfortunate.

I certainly agree about the RMN thing though. We need to power our drama core every once in a while, but it's a pretty cool place to be most of the time.

Me too, but considering what a huge shitstorm it is on tumblr it's more prudent for them to not give any opinion publicly. :/
I'm torn on Tumblr and microblogging. I'd like to talk a little more about the stuff I'm working on, and you can get some great traction on Tumblr and it has some cool things, plus it's easy to use... but you expose yourself to a lot of potential nastiness :/

Yeah, you can potentially meet some great people there and forge a lot of connections, but you'll have to deal with people who like to stir up drama. Being successful there as a gamemaker probably involves a lot of PR work and keeping up an illusion of personal connection while actually being extremely mindful of what you say and do.
Guess that's not too different from anywhere else, though.
