Games you've been neglecting... (The Pile of Shame)

hmm, let's see...

all final fantasies besides MQ: a while back I was rather into zsnes and played a good portion into the snes FFs. I somehow lost steam on all of them. I got furthest in FF6, got to the final dungeon but by that time, I had read pretty much the rest of the script having read through every nook and cranny of various fansites. Plus I was discovering that interest was finally petering out for it. I didn't really feel motivated to carry on. Similar happened to the others but at an earlier point and because I put them down and forgot where I got to. I haven't got to the rest of them yet.
Tales of Phantasia GBA: well I've completed the snes version so I know how the story goes, but on the GBA I don't have the advantage of save states, pausing etc, plus the bonus content has too few save points.
Titan Quest: awesome game but one character got stuck at a stupidly hard boss, leading me to start a new one who was much better but got tedious to play the game through entirely

also a bunch of games that don't work properly on Vista (I tried playing Thief II and Freedom Force but they didn't really work properly, the latter for some reason didn't work properly on my old PC I had I think 3 years ago which was why I put it down in the first place)
Megaman Battle Network 3: got to bass, found out I can't kill him, got bored the end.
megaman & Bass: rediculously hard. Just about managed to beat the ice robot with both characters, burner man is impossible. One problem with the megaman games is their negative difficulty curve; the first boss is rediculously hard, but once you beat it and start getting powerups, everything gets easier. Sensible in a way but somewhat annoying.
Pokemon yellow: the very first gameboy game I got, I loved it and managed to get pikachu to level 63 (so proud I was :)) then I lost the game. I recently found it again, hadn't a clue where I was, sighed deeply and started a new game (stupid single save slot) then couldn't be bothered.

It's annoying that there's a lack of "pick-up-and-play" types of games, that is ones that really grip me, but aren't too hard to put down and pick back up again. Currently Death Worm is my kind of game, though I'm not sure how long that can maintain my attention for. Any reccomendations?

Forum Changes

um...yes they do...I've still got a pic from 2 years ago on my account I set up just for that.

RPG Gender Swap!

I second Erave. As Mewd said, swapping Magus would put Flea out of a job.

Item carrying restriction

One example of a good item carriage system is that of the old PC classic, Castle of the Winds (plus sequel). Here, you had two limiting factors: weight and bulk. This did well to solve the common problem of realism that gadreel outlined. Weight capacity was increased by strength, while extra bags gave extra bulk capacity. Of course, this makes a lot more sense than the infamous "bag of holding" effect, although you still could carry a lot more than is considered sensible (particularly as the character was on his own, and it's unlikely he'd be able to have a good melee skill with a huge bulging pack on his back...which is where encumberment should appear). While this should be fairly easy to implement in rm2k3, it may be a lot of work trying to come up with a good system for balancing all the items.

Pokemon is another good example of a storage system. A backpack with compartments, and while you can have a more or less unlimited stock of your main item - pokemon (though they are essentially your party members) - you can only carry 6 at a time for use in battle. Again, this worked as it fitted in with the storyline and yet was practical and realsitic.

2006 Releases - Master List

Actually, DFalcon has a point. Googling tredtredtred brings up his GW profile, and his latest post is a topic he made in 2005 praising Lys's awesome game, so he's just a fan. Am I missing something here?

Congratulations

two comments.

First, clicking the members button on the bottom (a rather silly place to put it by the way) returns the rather enigmatic error "Unable to load the 'kick_guest' template."

second, I think that clicking the RMN logo on the top-left should take you back to the main page, or at least there should be a button for news or something, as it's silly to have the Home button in a position below the rest of the sections.

Congratulations

wow, um, it looks great. Glad to see there is TONS of content to sift through already.

ahem.

Why'd you cancel your metroid thing anyway? It was looking so good, and all cancelling it will do is not give you a leg to stand on if you want to flame someone for hyping and then cancelling a project. In short, shame on you and don't you dare give up on that thing.
